So, the first person that I came out to was my friend from college, Tonya. We met in bowling class, and she got me to join the gospel choir because they needed a bass.
It was 30 years ago and I was in the closet. But I was with someone that I was hiding from everyone. I gave Tonya a call. I believe it was an occasion where would normally call each other, like Christmas. While she was who I trusted the most, I was still nervous. If this didn't work out, this was going to be an even more difficult road than I had been anticipating.
After some conversation and some stammering on my part, "Tonya, I have something to tell you. I'm gay."
"Aw, honey, I knew that. I was just waiting for you to tell me."
I wish that I could say every other conversation with others went that well, but at least I knew that I had someone in my corner and I wasn't going to be starting this part of my life from zero.
This project came together rather quickly. For this one I used a skein of Fiber Optic Yarns Kashmir in the colorway Peace and leftovers from my June 2024 release of the Wavelength Wrap (second photo), which uses the Over the Rainbow Infinity Fade.
I will be releasing this in some form. I just have to get my ducks in a row.
Also, the choice of pride related colors for this one was not accidental for me. I have been struggling with what to say for pride that will be of some use. I have been editing it down, realizing I was complicating it by putting too many thoughts into one short post. More on that later.

Off the blocking board! I'm calling this the Satisfying Stripes Shawl, and I will be writing it up in the near future. I see it as a quick summer knit to use up minis and/or leftovers.
Taking a break from writing up the shawl pattern and swatching for the next design to do this. What is this? It's what I am calling a headphone cozy. The material on the headphones that I use at work is falling apart such that metal is in contact with my ears and leaving marks. This is one of two that I am knitting to cover the headphones to provide some cushion. Tried this one out today, and it worked pretty well. It's just 1x1 ribbing using leftovers (Magpie Solo Fingering held double and Plume) from a shawl I knit last year.
This past weekend was a great distraction, being able to see friends that I only get to see the first full weekend in May because they are right in my backyard! (Well, figuratively.) Hope everyone else had as good of a time at MDSW and all the adjacent events as I did.

To celebrate my Valentines birthday, from now until Valentines day, all of my patterns are 14% off with coupon code VDBD14 on both Ravelry and Payhip.
Unfortunately, I have another update to correct an error in the pattern.
There is an error of the setup section of Sleeping Satellite that won't be noticeable until you reach the first iteration of row 5 of the Crater section. The setup section is missing two rows. The addition to this section is:
Row 12: K3, yo, k1, [sl1yo, brk] 5 times, sl1yo, k1, yo, k3. (21 sts)
Row 13: K3, yo, k1, [sl1yo, brk] 6 times, sl1yo, k1, yo, k3. (23 sts)
The final stitch counts for all of the sections have been updated.
For those that have already started knitting Sleeping Satellite that do not wish to start over, you can work rows 1 and 2 of the Crater section before starting the first full repeat of the Crater section. This will slightly alter the appearance of the final shawl but will get you back to the correct stitch count without ripping back.
So sorry for this mistake. I am very embarrassed that this slipped by me.
Thank you, James, for notifying me of the problem.
Gentle reminder that the 20% discount for Sleeping Satellite ends tonight.
Going through my swatch where I worked through my ideas that became Sleeping Satellite.
Sale on the Sleeping Satellite shawl pattern runs through January 26th.
Wondering how the two sizes of Sleeping Satellite look on an actual person, here you go. I'm about 5' 11" with a 42" chest. Need a big hug of a shawl? Go with the large size. Just want some around your neck and to cover the opening of your coat? The small size is a good choice. Or customize your Sleeping Satellite by doing something in-between!
From now until January 26, Sleeping Satellite is 20% off, no coupon code needed. From now until February 20, $3.50 from each sale will go to
