Lash's part in the entire tethering the Dying Fields and Hallowing the theater is kind of really funny. Niveda has been yelling at him through rehearsals for cheating to his best angles and chewing scenery that it takes Hal's intervention to get him to stop doing it. he's the lead actor, so he's a focal point of the a larger and metaphysically critical ritual that he's completely and totally unaware of. under the auspices of the intense amount of magic happening around him, again basically none of which he knows about, he sang a song so perfect that it was at that moment the bridge to the Dying Fields was built and the spirit of Vokjan was summoned into the theater. he's playing Vokjan Murzat and gets possessed by the actual Vokjan Murzat. nobody who understands what's happening to him explains it. he has to spend the intermission break fighting a spirit possession, apparently just using raw willpower because there's no indication he got magical help for that. there's still half a play to go. Hal tells him he's the finest actor of his generation, and it's not even clear how much of that Hal believes vs. steadying his nerves. he's apparently super hot.
