trying to explain executive dysfunction is pretty much impossible, especially explaining it to neurotypical people. not being able to explain it makes awareness and acceptance more difficult. but to try to explain it, executive dysfunction is basically this. there's something I really want/need to do. (take a shower, get food, do homework, feed the dog, etc.) but even though I'm telling my brain I need to do that, it just wont cooperate. if any neurotypical person wants to brush their teeth, eat something, clean their room, etc. they just go and do it, not much effort needed. but its mentally exhausting to some people to do these things and that itself can be very discouraging. executive dysfunction isn't being lazy, it isn't putting excuses, it isn't lack of motivation, and it isn't not caring. It is a valid and real mental block between having to do something and being able to do it. I wish this was acknowledged more and not something thrown under the rug. itâs real and itâs not limited to a specific group of people. Anyone with Any type of mental illness or physical disability can suffer from executive dysfunction. itâs a real thing and it's not the personâs fault.
