The fact that one of the main musical themes in Project Hail Mary is a Dies Irae but in a major tonality means SO MUCH to me, you guys have no idea. This motif that, for centuries, has been associated with death and despair, recontextualized in a warm, hopeful, positive light. I'm gonna cry and throw up if I think about it too hard. Project Hail Mary is a fantastic example of how filmmakers can create a faithful adaptation and still take artistic liberties. The writers didn't try to copy the book to a tee, and added their own elements (the mental health room, the astrophage transition, the beach scene on erid, Grace's wardrobe etc). They understood that a film is a different artistic medium than a book and tried to write the story in a way that best suited that medium, all while staying loyal to the original story and themes.

the way lars is so loved, right from the very first moment of the film. the way he is encouraged and supported but never babied. the way people genuinely want to help him and be around him just because hes kind and honest and genuine. the way his friends dont expect him to make contact, nor do they exclude him or make things awkward when he declines it. this movie makes me emotional.
