To me, it’s even more surreal that they literally cannot imagine not wanting to be the boss. They actually believe humans are so evil, lazy, and selfish that they will die of starvation if there aren’t overlords to establish a pecking order and beat work out of people. They think that when “shit hits the fan” they believe hillbillies with huge gun collections will take over the country, rather than people who know how to cooperate and grow food and shit.

Fuck, the best-off post-apocalypse survivors might be the Amish, Mennonites, and First Nations reservations. Imagine that! The people least concerned with competition, success, ambition, and power in this country might just inherit (or in the First Nations’ case, reclaim it) it from all the Lord Humongous wannabes who discover, all too late, that you cannot eat guns, gold, or God.

Seeing how well this NSFW filter is performing at the moment I'm pretty sure Tumblr will just end up banning the entire user base.

I’ve seen some dumb people thinking they’re going to be safe.

The truth of the matter is, their detection system is so damn faulty that they’ll end up getting banned for posts that have nothing to do with lewd content.

A reminder that when Marissa Meyer assumed the position of CEO of Yahoo, there were fears that Tumblr would no longer allow NSFW content on their platform, and she went on public record and flat out denied such thing from happening.

And this was more than 5 years ago.

In other words it was just long enough ago that they thought you’d forget! Since half the reason I even visit Tumblr these days is to download porn without the bullshit, hassle, risk, and revoltingly abusive kinks that come with dedicated porn sites, this would eliminate most of its remaining utility for me.

But what does Marissa Mayer have to do with anything? There are no “good” or “bad” people at the level of a Fortune 500 company’s board. Morality does not exist, ethics do not exist. Only assets and liabilities are real. And make no mistake, Yahoo’s accounting department has probably been screaming about Tumblr’s potential liability due to adult content for years. Yahoo is not a kingdom, it’s a social machine, and Marissa Mayer was (she resigned from the company) a replaceable part, just like everyone else who works there.

The machine Yahoo calculated that it would acquire capital faster if NSFW content disappeared from Tumblr, so the machine will attempt to make its human servitors carry out this directive to the best of their ability. That’s how late capitalism works. Principles, systems, and abstractions rule over people, there is no evil leader to blame when something goes wrong.
