from late november to early january 2025-2026, i ran a poll series known affectionately as the firefly rarepair tournament and then ran a very lowkey inara/zoe shipweek event based on the results! the ao3 collection for that can be found here.
currently ongoing is wash wednesday, where we post about wash every wednesday in june 2026! if you want to participate, feel free to make whatever you like! there are prompts you can find in the link above for inspiration purposes (most of them do lend themselves to fic, but please do whatever suits you!) but the ultimate point is just wash appreciation and fandom creation! the ao3 collection can be found here!

while i have other fics posted to ao3, these are the ones that are curently active/ongoing.
all these words we speak then swallow, multichapter malsimon, in which simon gets inadverdantly drugged as a variation on a sex pollen fic, and he and mal deal with the aftermath and consequences. 4/6 chapters completed. i cannot emphasize enough this was supposed to be a 3,000 wordsish oneshot.
(please note this fic, while not detailing it super explicitly, deals pretty heavily with themes of simon being triggered by this situation, as it brings up memories surrounding a past sexual assault. there are also more general slightly dubious/murky consent issues between mal and simon, but they're both ultimately fine with that in the contexts they happen in. just, fic is not a consent instruction manual, etc., but we know this.)
watch the universe expand series, continous polyamory series in which inara, simon, kaylee, and (eventually) mal Figure Shit Out. this doesn't have a set timeline or end, but when it feels done i will say so?

firefly dvd commentary transcripts
i started transcribing the firefly dvd commentary, because i realized i couldn't find any existing transcripts online. i still plan to pursue this, but it also takes a lot of time/attention/mental energy. so it’s a slow-going passion project.
that being said, ^ the above has the dropbox where the first transcript currently lives. it is by no means perfect, but it exists!

I sort of genuinely believe they would not be able to plan a cohesive vacation tailored to everyone's wants? There's always going to be a sticking point when it comes to everyone's interests so a trip is hard to navigate; tastes and priorities are so varied and planning cooperatively would fall apart very quickly imo. Someone has to take charge and pick the general destination and activity and that will probably be Mal. So If I have to send these people on a group trip...I think they should go camping! So here is what everyone's doing while they're camping:
Mal suggests it (suggest=this is what we're doing now go pack). It feels sort of like a cattle run to him and he's eager to espouse how fresh air and quiet are good for everyone. Mal picks the campsite, arranges where the tents go, sorts out the gear, and then also gets to have dad moments of standing in silence looking at nothing.
Zoe is fine with it but she will NOT be eating beans so she decides to take on the task of planning meals. The chance to cook on an open fire without the risk of active shelling is very appealing to her.
I've decided Wash likes hiking and seeing natural landmarks. This is mostly based off of Simon talking up Ariel by saying there's hiking and bioluminescent lakes, because Simon doesn't seem like much of a hiking guy to me but maybe he already knew Wash was into that. Wash goes through the Cortex and local travel guides to find the best site and hiking trail.
Jayne is in charge of acquiring the main food, whether this means hunting or fishing. Maybe he would like fishing.
Kaylee gets to relax. This is Kaylee relaxation time. She gets a free pass to not do anything aside from setting up her own tent. She isn't asked to fix anything (all the gear stuff that might need fixing is minor and easy for everyone else to figure out). Her only job is to curate her favorite card/small board games to bring.
This is Inara's first time camping. She asks to help with small things like cooking prep but otherwise is just trying to see if she even likes it. While it isn't really her speed, she does like the stargazing opportunities.
They don't assign Simon a job and assume he'll just stay out of the way but he turns out to be the guy on the camping trip who really fucks with keeping the fire going.
River's job is look at creatures. She catches multiple lizards and is quick enough to snatch a bird right out of the air as it tries to steal bread from their cooking table.
Book chips in a bit with the cooking but his big role in a camping trip is setting the atmosphere. Campfire stories, leading a bit of singing, that sort of thing.
Bonus round! Separate day outings unrelated to camping:
Zoe and Wash get a couple's retreat. Special coupon deal for a resort and spa! Wash likes doing sauna and cold plunge back and forth, Zoe's favorite is sitting in a hot tub with a little scented towel around her neck. They end up buying some massage tools at the gift store; special stones they can put in hot water for themselves, but also little finger/hand massagers that they gift to Kaylee and Simon to help with muscle strain from their jobs.
Inara and Book take Kaylee and River to a formal tea tasting and farm/processing plant tour. Inara calls ahead requesting their most discreet staff (something she is familiar with after entertaining members of parliament) and their most adaptable guide and they all just assume River is some heiress and are happy to teach Kaylee about fancy tea. Book asks seven million questions about the tea drying process and buys a little tin of special aged tea.
Mal and Jayne take Simon to a demolition derby. He makes them wear earplugs and they get him way too drunk, which Jayne finds annoying only until he recognizes that it's stressing Mal out, whereupon he begins weaponizing drunk Simon just to push Mal's buttons. They drink bright blue slushies that have like 30% ABV and Simon makes friends he does NOT remember and leaves with a new hat (up to you what kind of hat this is).

i’ll come out and say it: i think both mal and book’s intro monologues are exactly the right amount of fun. why do we hate fun! in-character storytelling addressed to the audience (in mal’s case as though we are also living in the story)??? they don’t make tv like this anymore.
I had this idea originally as SimonKaylee but it also works for ZoeWash (no movie): I like the concept of weird third parent Malcolm Reynolds. You’re a kid growing up on a quiet rim planet and your household is you, your siblings, your mom and dad, and some other guy. Crucially he is not your uncle he is the Captain. And this is normal for you. You think every household has a Captain until you’re in like third grade.
