Edwin was not a sexist and did in fact, love his wife. His main flaw was neglect

Now, since I've done this song and dance before, I know a lot of the main points people are going to throw at this. So, let's start the list

Edwin just replaced Fiona with M1, therefor, he never loved her and saw her as replaceable

That's a massive misinterpretation of what happened

firstly, it ignores why Edwin created M1 because he wanted something to watch over David and do some of the chores around the house. Edwin never designed M1 as something to replace Fiona. It was far more something to allow him to focus on his work

It's entire purpose is set up, right there.

I think what's confusing a lot of people is that M1 starts mimicking Fiona and they start thinking that Edwin made M1 mimic Fiona. But there's no real hint towards this idea, at all

At most we see Edwin trying to contact and hear Fiona from beyond the grave with That machine it's frequency, but there's no real evidence of it being used to make M1 mimic Fiona

Edwin never cared about Fiona!

Yeah, that's just not true at all.

The first time we ever get to access a secret recording of Edwin, he fully laments about how everything is falling apart and how much he misses her.

He clearly cares about Fiona, or else he wouldn't be making this recording, it's not like his doing this out of sympathy points, no, this recording could only be accessed by someone with a executive leveled data diver.

By all definition, he would've been the only person who could have heard that message

When his asking her to marry him, he calls her an amazing artists and creator and fully says that MCM wouldn't be as successful without her. He straight views her as the heart of the company.

A sexist who never loved his wife wouldn't say this, he wouldn't think this way. And sure, you might be saying "but he's trying to marry her, it could be a lie" which seems like an option, but don't forget about Fiona's designs for the classics

He straight up said "I'm not changing a single bit of her work and they can't make me." when fazbear entertainment tried to reject Fiona's designs. If he was a massive sexist and nonlover, he would just change the designs within a heart beat. But he stood by and said "no, I will not change her designs"

The only reason why he does change the designs was due to monetary pressure and a need to finish the fazbear project

Edwin's real crime is neglect, it's not that hard to see, the game points that out again and again.

M1 is not a point of sexism, it's a point of neglect towards his family and David.

I just don't know who keeps on trying to make Edwin a sexist, when nothing really points to that idea.

and you wanna know why I just don't see that idea.

because it was never brought up within the narrative, like at all!

The narrative highlights his neglect, his neglect towards his family. But it never highlights his sexism, heck, if it was a character trait of his, it's pretty well hidden.

The entire point of Edwin is the same point of Henry, it's supposed to be a good man with a massive amount of flaws that was thrown in a tragedy of a situation because of those flaws.

Their both meant to be sympathetic people, so why would Scott/Steel wool make Edwin sexist? wouldn't that just ruin that idea and make him the bad guy?

I just don't see anyone's point behind this, and it's being brought up by some theorist within the community (not to name names of course)

And that is just so frustrating to me

I think people are actively trying to see make this character seem horribly by seeing things that either don't happen and or misinterpretating them to hell and back

And unfortunately, I don’t think their gonna have their opinion changed by anyone (or at least, by me)

Luckily, the way the rest of the fandom treats Edwin feels like they actually understand his character and it seems to be a smaller portion than most

My recommendation for dealing with people who sees Edwin as sexist and not loving his wife? Just ignore them, maybe give your evidence, but if they don’t change their mind, just ignore them

I don’t know why they think the dude is sexist, but I think it’s better to save time and energy instead of fighting them

There’s a larger conversation here about how fans will ignore evidence if it means their interpretation is correct (not saying I’m innocent of that) and that really does hurt our ability to discuss theories.

Anyway, gonna stop ranting now
