Zig-Zag plant in flower in Fiji but not Belmont (Euphorbia tithymaloides) It’s native to tropical and subtropical North America and Central America. Sometimes called redbird flower, devil's-backbone, redbird cactus, buck-thorn, cimora misha, Christmas candle, fiddle flower, ipecacuahana, Jacob's ladder, Japanese poinsettia, milk-hedge, myrtle-leaved spurge, Padus-leaved clipper plant, red slipper spurge, slipper flower, slipper plant, slipper spurge, timora misha. It does have a really beautiful flower but I’ve never seen one flower in our area. Mostly I’ve grown it in pots and usually in a shaded spot so I think I might try it in a sunny garden spot and see what happens. My 4th variety of devil's backbone. Meet "Embraceable You" devil's backbone or seashell zigzag plant. I'm proud to say, I bought none of my devil's backbone plants. All were asked for from strangers, friends of friends and this recent one from my suki. I always visit this local nursery's not for sale area to view their upcoming plants. They place the mother plants there and the plants in propagation. I took this photo then showed it to suki. "Ate wala pa ako nito. Ang tatangkad na nila sa likod." She stood up to get the shears, went at the back and returned with some cuttings. I only bought vermicast, moss and 3 pots worth 50 pesos each. But I've been buying from her for the last five years. She knew how my dog destroyed half of my garden last year. She knew the progress of my rubber tree. She asked me what I planted to the blue glazed pot I bought 3 years ago which stayed vacant until recently. She knew how my dog and cats would nibble on the citronella grass until none was left which is why I'm always at the nursery buying replenishment citronella grass. It was just one small nursery but I love buying from them.
