Finally caught these Saw-tooth Banksia (Banksia serrata) flowering in the Australian Garden section of the Flower Dome.

Lots of flowers now, with the cooler weather, on the Blueberries “Nellie Kelly Sunshine Blue” variety (Vaccinyum x corymbusm x ashei x darrowi {I think}). Original they come mainly North America, Europe, and Asia. They grow well enough in pots but you have to watch out they don’t dry out. Fruit is much more tangy than store bought. Chinese Ground Orchid (Thunia marshalliana {I think})This really pretty orchid comes from from Nepal, through Sikkim, Bhutan, north-east India, Burma, to China, in the area of almost all of Thailand and Malaysia. In China, these orchids are found in the provinces of Yunnan, Sichuan and Tibet. My plant blooms through the middle of December into January and has been doing so for several years. each year the old stem produces one to two new shoots. Hairpin Banksia (Banksia spinulosa), is native to the east coast of Australia, from Victoria up to Cairns and grows from the coastline into forest areas of the Great Dividing Range. In coastal areas of it is often dwarfed but in the mountains it is often taller and more upright. The "big bad" Banksia Men (modelled after the tree’s mature cones) are the villains of the story, Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, by May Gibbs. At our dog show grounds it’s growing under many of the gum trees, usually on the shaded south side. I’ve got somell try taking a cuttings and also some seedpods to try and propagate. The seedpods open after a fire. I think it will make a good bonsai and also because Australian native birds love them. N.B. Very Dark Red Frangipani (Plumeria rubra) everyone always comments about this frangipani because it’s SO dark and beautiful. They come from Mexico, Central America, Colombia and Venezuela. Because this one is shaded it’s been hit quite hard this year with Frangipani Rust (Coleosporium Pluymeriae) but has mostly been able to outgrow the rust. To propagate them plant the cuttings into slightly damp sandy soil after letting the stems dry to form a callus. Yellow and Red Frangipani (Plumeria rubra) this beautiful plant is at the entrance of our garden. Originally native to Mexico, Central America, Colombia and Venezuela. This one has to be kept pruned so we can walk under it and is in absolute full sun. I’ve got old man’s beard growing on it and it’s providing a microclimate for the plants under it.
