Tonight, a Yeshiva University student was brutally beaten by a masked mob of 6 to 8 assailants in Manhattan. The attack occurred around 7 p.m. on the staircase leading down to the platform at the 181st Street 1 train station in Washington Heights, an area described as having no visible security presence and no cameras. The student was hospitalized and is now recovering. This was not random chaos. It was a coordinated assault by masked individuals targeting a visibly Jewish student leaving campus. Antisemitic violence in New York continues to surge. Jewish students commuting home should not have to calculate blind spots, security gaps, or whether wearing visible Jewish identifiers makes them a target. We are formally calling on New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani to take immediate, concrete action as antisemitic attacks surge under his term. This city must deliver visible protection for Jewish residents and students, including strengthened security at transit staircases and stations near Jewish institutions, rapid investigative follow through, and clear enforcement outcomes. Condemnations are not a safety plan. Actions are. We will continue to report verified updates as they come in. Accountability matters. Safety matters. Jewish lives matter. ย @NeverAgainUSย
