So, I just found this story and it goes insanely hard. The Golden Mountain: Baal Shem Tov: Rabbi Israel and the Sorcerer I realize that the Hasidism and the Besht can be controversial but if you wish, you can ignore the greater context and just read it as good guy kabbalist vs bad guy necromancer.
