Itâs just occurred to me that every Z Fighter in the Dragon Ball Gang aside from Goku and Krillin and that wasnât a direct descendant of either them or another Z fighter was an enemy at one time or another:
And to be honest, since Krillin considered Goku his competition with training with Master Roshi, you could even say they are also unlikely allies too.
So basically, everybody in Dragon Ball/Z/Super became a force for good because Goku was just an easy person to get along with. In a sense he made more friends than enemies because most of his enemies became his friends. You could even say Frieza did too in Super. I didnât buy that whole âIâm only fighting on your side to win this tournamentâ excuse. Goku grew on him and he couldnât face it.
I just think itâs kinda cool that Goku was meant to be the ultimate doom of the Earth as itâs destroyer but actually became itâs saviour time and again and turned almost every threat to it from evil to good just because he is that damn likeable as a person. And yeah, he is frustrating and neglectful and sometimes just too stupid to stand (yes, I am channelling Vegeta here) - but he is still an endearing character. And it was ultimately because of him and the love his human grandfather gave him that made him a good Saiyan. I just think itâs interesting that almost all his enemies team up with him at some point and stay that way. It just goes to show that a personâs evil nature can change if their experience is a healthy and loving one.
It also shows that the entire series wasnât all about violence and killing since most of the time Goku defeated the Big Bad by either sacrificing himself or through the use of the spirit bomb,⊠had help from all inhabitants of the Earth to take down the Big Bad. Or⊠as Iâve previously mentioned: they turned good. Defeating them wasnât necessarily about killing them (although he would result to that if it came to it), just stopping them. Goku was a pure soul even as a warrior. I know Toriyamaâs version of him in the manga is much more selfish but Sean Schemmelâs portrayal of Goku in the English-speaking anime wasnât. And his version of Goku was the Goku that I grew up with.
