(posting this kinda late, yet technically on time so lol)
Hello all!
My name is Kyu. I'm a creative writer that has mainly written fanfics up til now, but am starting to focus on scriptwriting my original stories for Black (girl) joy-centered animated series and/or comics! I have a history of doubting my writing ability when it comes to original stories since I have to build the universe & characters from the ground up, so I've never put a great amount of effort into writing them at all.
That will change this month as I join CalmWrimo - a November writing challenge created by @winterandwords that counters the wellknown NaNoWriMo. Instead of writing to meet a goal of 50k words by the end of the month, those who join will set their own self-care, word count, and/or any other goals in relation to writing!
For this challenge, I will focus on scriptwriting the 1st season of my WIP 'Oh, Coffee Boy!'. It's a comedic, slice-of-life series about an introverted Black boy named Akachi Mayberry that shows up to his first day of his first job at the wrong location. Before he can leave, however, he's quickly transferred to this a cosplaying branch of MegDonald's (spelling intentional)! Can Akachi survive the chaos that ensues with his looney co-workers?
It'll be a very shoujo anime-inspired series that I hope brings lots of laughs! 🥰
writing goals
finish scriptwriting 1-3 episodes of 'Oh, Coffee Boy!'
post 4 blog posts, one every Saturday of the month
self-care goals
stretch at least once a day
journal at least once a week
Will try to update my progress every day! Wishing everyone doing NanoWrimo & CalmWrimo this month the best! 🌟
The hollowed out river was absent of water, instead what grew from deep within its basin were enormous ferns. Their lush tendrils curled in acknowledgement in the bright sun, their stems thick as tree branches and disappearing to the depths beneath. Roman stares up at them in awe, utterly absent of words.
"What do you seek, little fish?" They ask him in chorus.
"Help," he whispers. Their laughter is gentle, amused but in an almost motherly sort of way.
"And how may we help you?"
Let me know if you would like to be on any of my taglists!
· Thesauruses are crucial for writing, as they give you different words that have the same meaning, it stops you from repeating the same word (like said) too many times. Here’s my favourite online thesaurus that I use
· I see a lot of people saying “No, you shouldn’t write for yourself! That’s self-entitled and incompetent!” but that’s exactly where you should start. Write something for yourself, give it a week, vomit at your cringe and write a new, better story, or drabble, and repeat until you get good. That’s what I did. My writing before The Story of a Toy was SO BAD. Back then I just wrote drabbles and ideas on things I liked, and I guess I just got better the more I wrote, of course, I still have a long way to go.
So practice makes perfect! Also, if you start out worrying about what you’re writing, you’re going so self-conscious you’ll lose your writing spark.
· Characters. I see a lot of fics with other people’s characters (or OC’s) where the OC either 1) It’s ALL about them, they’re the main character now bub-bye everyone else, everybody loves them.
2) eDgY tRaGiC bAcKsToRy everyone hates them and everyone loves them they hate life and everything in it. (This can be done right if you research depression and make the story more believable, as well as interesting)
3) They don’t do anything at all, they just blend into the background because the author doesn’t want to disrupt the canon more than they already have by adding their characters.
My advice is to try and avoid these tropes if you can.
Let your original character exist in your writing, in the story you’re writing, let them have different opinions on things to the other characters and have someone not exactly like them, give them realistic flaws that actually make them weaker instead of making them cute, and if you have to ship them with someone let it take time to develop their relationship through a few stories, and let the canon character fall in love realistically instead of on-sight.
And write for other characters, not just your OC if you have one.
· If you don’t have an OC and you’re just writing about the canon characters, keep them as in character as possible, but don’t stress out about it. you know what helps me with characterization without stressing me out? Alignment memes. They help me figure out what the character would do in this situation without making me feel scared, because they’re funny. Also, watching the movies/shows/reading the books about the characters helps too, just make sure to have fun otherwise you’re not learning anything.
Also, if you’re writing about a character that doesn’t have much of a character arc, say I minor character, feel free to give them a personality. Keep it canon, of course, but (and this goes for any character you write about) let them change through your stories. Give them lessons, let them get scolded by their mistakes, let them be more than what they are through others eyes and let them see a whole new side of this character that opens up your eyes.
Like what Liz Brasswell did with Wendy in Straight on till Morning I guess.
· Read blogs and YouTube websites about writing tips if you can, (I’ll link my favourites at the end) and of course, to be a writer you must be a reader first, gather all your favourite books and read them, what do you like about them? Is there a specific flaw in a character you like, or the style of the writing?
I love Liz Brasswell’s and Danielle Paige’s styles of writing, and Matt Haig, too. Find writers that inspire your own style.
Or movie directors, or movies in general. But of course, don’t let your own stories be straight-up copies of those movies, even if you’re writing fanfiction no-one wants to read something they know by heart unless you’ve added something interesting to it, a what-if scenario or something.

It's tiring, how we must sugarcoat everything so it won't be so vulgar or overdramatic. I'm starting to hate poetry. I just wanna shout fuck you at your face, or hug you and say I love you then kiss your cheek.

I myself am not doing angstpril2021 but many of my super talented mutuals are and so I'm going to broach the monthly topic most of you seem to like to ignore, on their behalf:
Reblogging fics.
I reblog fics and I see y'all liking them in my notes but only liking not reblogging them. So here's a friendly reminder to please reblog fanfictions if you liked them. Fics need to be shared just as much as fanart. Tumblr is a blogging website. Reblogging is the point. If you don't reblog a work only the artists followers are going to see it and even they might not because tumblr algorithm works differently than ie. IG's. You need to reblog fics so they can be read by others that follow you or it'll get lost in the void.
Lord. Why cant i have what i want? Am i asking for too much? Why do i always like that one i can't have? Hindi mo rin ba ko favorite?
Bakit po ako yung habol ng habol? Marupok lang ba talaga ako? Bakit kailangang ako yung laging nagpapansin? Kasi hindi ako pansinin?
Why am i always chasing something that in the end will not be mine?
Parang wala kasing katapusan. Parang lagi akong hindi sapat.
