1- Ginny herself said she never gave up on Harry and always had hope and just started to go out and see other people thanks to Hermione's advice and start to be herself around Harry .

2- The books are from Harry pov of course we know more about his feelings and thoughts about other people , his views and opinions etc . If the books were from Ginny pov or JK wrote her pov we would know the details about her feelings for Harry .

3 - The love and dreams and the thoughts Harry had about Ginny specially in book 6 and 7, Ginny most likely had the same thing for him specially dreams of being with Harry intimate and missing him when he was out with Ron and Hermione during the horcrux haunt .

Many say she's perfect for Harry ( which is true) but people forget how perfect Harry is for Ginny and how much she loves him and that is a really underrated thing for even Hinny shippers talking about Ginny feelings for Harry and how much she loves him and he is her soulmate and her best source of happiness and hang out.

What are your thoughts about this? Do you agree?

Okay, I swear I read this same or similar post on another Hinny author's page a year or so ago. I don't usually write meta's so these aren't exhaustive thoughts, but here goes.

Taken at face value, I think the statement "Ginny fell first, Harry fell harder" is a cutesy saying that's satisfying for the unrequited love trope. The idea that the person who's waiting the longest gets the pay off that the object of their affection experiences a greater magnitude of love, or whatever.

I don't know how I feel about measuring love as if you can take a yardstick and compare "I love you more, no I love YOU more, noooo I loveee you MOST!..." blah blah blah but for sake of argument let's get into it.

There's a real-world answer to your question and there's a fictional one. Since you brought up JKR, let's start with the real world one.

It's not bashing JKR to say that she is simply not a romance author. I think she knows her strengths to be creating interesting characters, intriguing plots, and a building a world so many of us want to disappear into. Honestly, I see her using her romances as simply plot devices. (Side note, this is one reason I fizzled out on reading the Cormoran Strike series.) The promise of the Harry Potter series was never to deliver the most intriguing and satisfying romantic love story and relationship... other than to further the ultimate plot of Harry vs. Voldemort.

I just so happen to think that she created a very compelling pairing with Harry and Ginny but you have to read between the lines to see it. I'm not sure if that was JKR's intention or not, or if she felt that she'd made Ginny's feelings for Harry so overtly obvious in the early books that she didn't need more explanation on that front. Honestly I think OotP serves us more Harry/Ginny than HBP in some ways.

All in all, Ginny unfortunately doesn't really serve the ultimate plot of Harry vs. Voldemort and Horcruxes more than be a figure of hope, comfort, and happiness for Harry. (Which is why a Ginny kills a Horcrux fic would be SO COOL!!) Now, would it have killed JKR or the editors of the published works to suggest more Hinny or even a happy scene by the lake? Apparently so. We got what we got, but I still think each of their interactions in canon speaks volumes.

Here's what I think from a fictional angle:

Harry was several years older when he fell for Ginny, so that alone will be enough for some people to take it more seriously. Ginny fell for him when she was a young girl, which a lot of people brush off as "oohhh, poor sweet girl, having a crush on a boy. How cute!" ... as if it's not the most painful, intense, uncontrollable thing in the world to fall so deeply for someone when you're that age. So by the time they get together in HBP she's had years of experience with her feelings for Harry and because of that she'll appear more cool-headed about it. Even if the love she experiences in just as intense (or probably more!!) as it was when she first fell for him. It's like the rush of heat when you first get into a hot bath but after a few minutes you get used to it, even if it's the same temperature.

And of course, you're right that we only get Harry's POV. Which is basically the whole impetus for my own fic TIBs.

There's the observation floating around the internet that Harry never appears to worry about whether Ginny liked him back in HBP. I do think as a character that Harry is thoughtful about other's feelings, so the way that I explain this is that in his interactions with Ginny it had to be so painfully obvious to him that she still liked him that he didn't ever have to worry about whether or not she returned his feelings. Which, again, is one reason I wrote TIBs the way I did with Ginny being so outwardly transparent about how she felt for him before The Kiss.

About the dreams during HBP and DH, yeah for sure. If you're not having certain thoughts and dreams about the person you love, then what're you doing 😂 But we see Ginny blocking Cho from being alone with Harry in the Final Battle as well as the moment she decides to stay in the Room of Requirement, and I think that's a way of extrapolating that she still loves him. Again, it's all reading between the lines here.

You also mentioned the "Harry is just as perfect for Ginny as Ginny is for Harry" discussion (And wow could each of these points you brought up be it's own long post), but I have thoughts here.

I think Harry is absolutely a great partner for Ginny. Among other things, Harry matches her intensity, her humor, her adventurousness, her values on family, AND there's this piece people forget that he is uniquely positioned to understand what she went through with the diary. He doesn't totally get her whole diary experience yet in HBP, how could he without handling a Horcrux (or... one other than himself, I guess).

This whole diary angle is a big point I'm trying to bring up in TIBs. This shared Tomdemort mind fuck experience they have needs to have more attention on it. They're a great pairing without it, but I think there's so much to explore there that hasn't been in a lot of what I've read. And its a key feature in their relationship after the war that strengthens them... in my opinion.

My hot take is that it's a lot harder for Ginny to love Harry in HBP and DH than it is for Harry to love Ginny. Can you imagine? Falling in love with someone you know has a massive target on his head and almost dies every year? And has all these secrets and has to leave you so he can disappear for an indefinite amount of time with no guarantee of coming back? In Harry's mind throughout DH, Ginny is light and future and the symbolic sun that he follows out of the darkness. For Ginny's POV, Harry is followed by uncertainty and danger and death. Despite everything, she commits to loving him and understanding that he never chose any of that, so she never blames him for it. Which shows an incredible depth of maturity on her part and a flavor of love you see in marriages where someone has to sacrifice something in order to make the relationship work.

29. Favorite villain.

Athos and Astrid Dane from Shades of Magic.

I don't write for that fandom anymore, but god those two were so much fun to write. Murderous, power hungry, magic hoarding twins from a dying world, keeping a captive knight for their bidding.

They were so much fucking fun. I miss them.

41. Any advice for new/beginning/young writers?

Two Things.

FIRST: Try to write every day.

I do not mean "work on your wips every day" or "write fic every day." I just mean write. Make it a habit to pick up your pen or open your notes app, or however you write, and just write. I journal, I make lists, sometimes I even copy over sections of books I like (seriously, there's a whole section of my current notebook that's just Sheridan LeFanu's Carmilla).

Just write. Be in a habit of giving yourself the time, the space to be creative every day.

SECOND: fucking read.

That sounds harsh, but it is true. You cannot be a good writer without being a good reader. You cannot be a good writer on reading fic alone either. Give yourself as many different, interesting things to read, to look at, to explore. Read fiction, nonfiction, and graphic novels. Read magazine articles, horoscopes, and children's picture books. Read big literary things, read 10-line poems, or podcast transcripts. Listen to audiobooks, listen to storytime at the library, have someone pick a book for you.

Read LITERALLY anything that strikes your fancy.

Why? you may ask...

Because, whether you know it or not, you're building your own personal library of techniques, word choices, imagery, and more that you can pull from when you write your own things. Each author brings something different to their work.

Reading is your opportunity to learn.

Writing is your time to experiment.

42. How do you feel about love triangles?

I'm meh to "no thanks" on them. Because, truly, I'd just rather write ot3 and polyamory instead. I'm not a fan of large miscommunication plots and actively do not write them if I can avoid it. I've been cheated on and lots of love triangle lines edge way too close to that for me to enjoy it.

THAT BEING SAID: a trusted author can make me change my mind on anything, and I'll try most things if the summary sounds interesting enough.

1) what fic did you have the most fun writing this year and why? Or, if you can’t decide, what was most fun about writing this year for you?

I had a ton of fun writing When You Call Unexpected with @gallavichgeek and All I Wanna Do with @notherenewjersey.

I always have fun writing with NJ, we're cut from the same cloth in so many ways.

Writing with GG was so much a pleasant surprise. I had no idea we were going to have so much in common & we ended up writing something so pretty.

2) what’s a scene/story that you finished and felt “wow, I really accomplished that, that actually went so well”?

This year, it was def' the one-shot I wrote for The Bear, Service Work. It's always fun to to write for a different fandom; it lets me flex my writing muscles a little. 

3) What helped provide the most inspiration for stories, if anything? Was it poetry? A song on repeat? A gorgeous gifset? A walk outside? A book you read that made you want to change everything? Whatever it was! Tell all.

Inspiration comes from the most random places. Books, songs, gifs, HCs, comments, fandom conversations... the list is endless.

4) What is something you want to share about what you’ve written this year? A particular line, a comment that made you feel really good, a scene that was difficult to write — you get to choose! What do you wish someone would ask you about when it comes to what you’ve written?

I think my favorite was when someone called WYCU "educational." It's right up there with all the times people have said things like, "I don't normally read XYZ, but this fic changed my mind." 😍🤩

And to start off 2024…

1) do you have any writing/creation goals for the year? What are they?

Yes, finish my WIPs.

2) is there a fic or idea that you’re really excited to be able to continue to work on in the new year (shout out to my fellow fic writing folks who take forever to finish wips, sometimes it’s nice to be able to continue working on something even if you wish you’d gotten it done! Now you get even MORE time with it!)

I'd really like to be able to finish The Caper with @notherenewjersey

3) What’s something new in your writing you want to try/are going to try? A different writing style? Different fandom? Darker works? Fluffier? Longer or shorter?

I'd love to try something truly dark. Maybe a whump.

🕯️ was there a fic that was really hard on you to write, or took you to a place you didn't think it would take you?

Writing AGCHHL has been very introspective and made me think a lot about what I've experienced, and what I want from a relationship. On the surface, it's a fun ride about two idiots in love, and yes there's some omo sprinkled in there, and there are many a kinky scene. But really understanding Loki's emotional world has been quite deep for me. The Void was very emotional to write. I thought about what might have happened to Loki after falling into the abyss. And he shares it all with his partner. It made me think about how I would want to be supported when I share something very tender, vulnerable and painful from my past.

What about you, my love? Is there anything you've read by a writer that impacted you in an unexpected way?

15) favorite weather for writing

Huh, I don't think I have one. If it's raining and cold, I will be most likely to be found huddled under a blanket with my laptop and a cup of hot tea somewhere within reach. If it's sunny and warm, I prefer to sit at my desk with view of the park outside. And don't tell my manager, but whatever the weather I like sometimes to write several paragraphs when things are slow at work ;)

24) how do you recharge when you’re not feeling creative?

It happens pretty regularly. I go through periods when I'm bursting with ideas and the whole paragraphs are flowing through my head and then through ones when I feel as creative as a log. 

What helps is to accept it. Writing is my hobby, nothing forces me to slog through the second period. Instead I usually read a lot. Books, fanfics, doesn't matter. Usually after some time of allowing other people's writing consume my brain, I'm itching to do some of my own.

2023 Writer's Asks

What’s something new that you tried in a fic this year? How did it turn out and would you do it again?

Smut, haha. I mean, technically, I started The Better Man in November 2022 with a smut scene, but I have definitely written more since then. It's a challenge, but definitely getting easier.

26. If you had to choose one, what was THE most satisfying writing moment of the year?

This might sound silly, but meeting other writers has been the best moment for me. Just brainstorming ideas, getting advice, and even just talking about our latest hyper-fixations has been such a pleasant surprise out of this whole year. It's like I finally found my people. <3

30. What's something you want to write in 2024?
