- Salmo 1:1-3 #WordView #Devotion #1stVG2018

What have we lost?
What have we lost? What have we given up in the strides of temporality? What have we seen sunk beneath the waves, beneath the lacuna coils of the eternal burning sun? It is the world, it is the world that is lost to us now. In the rising tide of modernity we have crucified the chains of the world; Burnt our homestead, ploughed salt into the lands and poured vinegar in the rivers.
The chains that bound us to the world have been broken, and in breaking it we have gained what we call freedom: freedom from knowing, freedom from our homestead, freedom from our families and finally ourselves.
There was a day when we now would say that we were caught in a divine illusion, a spoke in the wheel of the world, and we called it nothing but a sword to fall on. I ask you, what is this new thing ‘freedom’, hard fought under the bloodied sun that would have fed us, that would raise us up along the celestial ladders? Why did we cut our bonds to gain the ancient vertigo? The losing of all now has made us lost, and we dare to call this 'freedom’?
I ask you; what is this freedom? Is it freedom if there is nothing left to be free of? Is it knowing if we now know nought? Is it freedom if the ancient battle now again is fought? To circle the winds, to speak the air, to grind the air, to see only air and breathe the ashes of what we have lost and call this freedom!
I ask you; can we return? Can we come softly and silently back to our homes, under the quiet, cooling sun? To the soft waters and happy sands? The soothing bands of friends and fathers, daughters and mothers and all that upholds when the day has been long and the nights unsung? Or would we continue on this path, this broken horrid way of stealing away the treasures of the world, of in avarice guarding the treasures of our soul and trading them for demons that promise to make us whole?
When all that is required, all that is sought after is for us to return to our home; to what we have named chains, but what is more clearly seen as the ties tying together, the undoing of this chain which may become our bane.
I ask; is there togetherness in you?
[W]ith limited cognitive ability to fully investigate every issue we face. People everywhere employ ideological filters that reflect their identity, worldview, and belief systems. These filters are strongly influenced by group values, and we generally endorse the position that most directly reinforces the connection we have with others in our referent group. .... In so doing, we cement our connection with our cultural groups and strengthen our definition of self. This tendency is driven by an innate desire to maintain a consistency in beliefs by giving greater weight to evidence and arguments that support preexisting beliefs, and by expending disproportionate energy trying to refute views or arguments that are contrary to those beliefs. Instead of investigating a complex issue, we often simply learn what our referent group believes and seek to integrate those beliefs with our own views. Over time, these ideological filters become increasingly stable and resistant to change through multiple reinforcing mechanisms. First, we’ll consider evidence when it is accepted or, ideally, presented by a knowledgeable source from our cultural community; and we’ll dismiss information that is advocated by sources that represent groups whose values we reject. Second, we will selectively choose information sources that support our ideological position.
