(I started this a while back and can't remember why or where I was going with it. So this is all it is. Enjoy.)

Now is not the time. 

Or is it?

Let’s not be indecisive shall we? It’s very pasé or whatever they say. Old school. Yesteryear. So very millennial of us to be indecisive, isn’t it? We should all know what we’re doing. 

So, let’s say now is the time. There we go. That’s a better start. 

We can begin with something like that. None of this back and forth second guessing anxiety ridden bullshit that most people living in uncertain times seem to cling to. No sir! Not for us. Not today. Not this year! The year of the rabbit. No, actually I think it’s the Dragon. Is that right? Fuck. Maybe it’s the year of the Horse. Okay, alright, maybe a little bit of uncertainty is okay, but that’s only because Daniel Sartofsky is going to play the oboe at Marilyn’s party tonight. For some fucking reason. 

There’s nothing wrong with Daniel. Everyone says so. “You know Daniel? There’s nothing wrong with that guy. Not a damn thing.” That’s what they say. So, who the hell am I to tell you any different? He’s perfectly fine. A nice guy. A good oboist. Oboeist. Oboe-player? Oblongist. Oboe guy. He can play, alright? He can play, and for some reason or another Marilyn likes it. She likes the sound of his oboe, or at least she likes the idea of him playing it at her party enough to invite him to play it at her party. 

I like to think it’s the oboe. That’s a better thought. A happier one. Marilyn likse the oboe and Daniel just happens to have one. And maybe he plays a little, who knows? I’m no musicologist. But the sound is so pleasant and so nice and what a joy it would be to have one at her party tonight. How lovely. How European. How Continental and how fucking artsy. Yes, it’s not really that sort of party but Daniel agreed to play the oboe anyway. 

Of course he did. 

Here’s the thing though. Marilyn already slept with a first violin. Back in college she spent a night with a drummer even if she doesn’t remember what happened, and I know for a fact that she spent six months in Memphis shacking up with a guy named Trombone Tony. Who played the trombone. Obviously.  So, yeah, you get it. She needs a woodwind. And a clarinet won’t do, that’s understandable, so it has to be a fucking oboe. 

Which means Daniel is getting laid tonight assuming he knows how to take a hint. Oboeists arena’t known for their keen discernment, now are they? 

But we all know Marilyn and she’s not a subtle girl. She’s not the type to flutter her eyelashes or like all his posts or comment on his hair. She’ll look him right in the eye and say something like, “You’re a good looking guy, how’d you’d like to sleep in my bed tonight?”
