Apex Legends is STILL Cookin’??
Anyone remember when Apex first released? Let’s travel back in time in this hypothetical time machine -- Circa 2019, It was halftime during the super bowl and out of nowhere, we see an ad for a game called “Apex Legends,” a battle royale set in the same universe as Titanfall. Many Titanfall fans leaped with joy hoping for a taste of Titanfall 3 yet sadly, this didn’t quite hit that mark, but it did hit many other marks.
During the “Battle Royale Boom” from 2016-2020, PUBG starting it all, then Fortnite following out of the blue (which was originally supposed to be a zombie horde survival game), and then Apex -- these 3 remained the top played Battle Royales as this new genre surged in popularity.
As the years progressed, the genre quickly became very redundant and the only way to stay relevant was to create skins, maps, modes, characters, and of course character balancing to keep the game “fair” to the casual audience. Fortnite, of course, had the upper hand by doing crossovers with many familiar universes such as Naruto, Dragonball Z, Alien vs Predator, Celebrities, and even NFL and NBA Athletes!
As PUBG slowly drifted out of the top 3, Call of Duty Warzone took over with a vengeance due to its familiarity and to be completely honest here, it’s what PUBG tried to be. CoD copied the homework but wrote it better. However, CoD’s currently failure is due to its current “copy/paste formula” and going with “what works” by copying everyone else while forgetting its own identity during the process...
Anyways...
Enough of my rambles about the “history of Battle Royales” but I wanted to share this video of me playing the new Wildcard mode in Apex Legends. I wasn’t always the best at this game, however sometimes, I surprise myself.

An Uber for Owls
You may remember that Julie and I recently attended raptor renesting training at WildCare Oklahoma. Yesterday, we had the opportunity to assist in renesting two baby great horned owls that had fallen out of their nests in the recent windstorms. A few notes on wildlife rescue Before we describe our day, it’s important to keep a few things in mind. These are wild animals, not pets – These owls…
Painted in the two Chipmonks that we rescued this spring on my "Forest Life" piece. (detail here) BTW: They were returned to us back at our house by Wild Care and are having a nice time frolicking around here and we see them almost everyday. #wildliferescue #abstractpainting #california #art #wildcare (at Inverness, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bz6xvVtpMgA/?igshid=1bmpaxv7qkrrs

A scratch at the door.
The dog knows to come around to the laundry.
Another scratch at the door.
Finally I get up to take a look. It’s the termite inspector.
I know there are many types of termites all around us, just waiting to have a little chew on the house. We have the house inspected regularly, and the annexe had to baits drilled in around the concrete foundation to deter an infestation. Luckily, we have a defender in the form of echidnas (tachyglossus aculeata) who feed on them (and ants).
I followed as it ambled around the verandah, tried every door, peered over the edge of the stairs, sniffed at the walls and squeezed itself among Craig’s boot collection. I was pleased that it wasn’t interested enough to start clawing at any particular spot. I’ll take that as “no termites”.
On the other hand, it did seem rather small and young, so maybe not the best termite inspection we’ve had.
Eventually it noticed me, and threw itself into a corner. So I left it to explore elsewhere.
