It killed you a little, watching your friends holding hands in the supermarket, sharing chores in the kitchen, and knowing that at the end of the day, they'd end up safe and warm, in the arms of their partners. Killed you a little, at the faces they made when you said you hadn't found anyone yet - it wasn't pity, but it was so close that you wished the worst. Wished that the life he'd built for himself wasn't his anymore. And nothing killed you more than that letting yourself believe that you were in the wrong for it. You weren't exactly in the wrong. But would he still be the person you loved without it? And would you ever forgive yourself for knowing that that would never be the case? How could you love him so dearly and imagine a universe where it played out differently? Makeshift dance floor in the living room, matching cups in the kitchen, linked pinkies in the car.
