The saddest part about VS events is that it's always the most popular champions that wins, Yasuo won vs Riven and Leona would have zero chance vs Diana *sigh*.

‘cause see, when it was Order vs Chaos with Riven and Yasuo, at least I had a sense of what both sides extremes were; either you accept absolute order, where your destiny is pre-determined and everyone is expected to fit their own role in the grand scheme of things for a general sense of peace but no real freedom, or absolute chaos where everyone is free to do what they want no matter the consequences, nothing is pre-ordained and change (thus destruction) is constant.

Neither of these extremes is more “ideal” than the other at face value. It’s up to personal interpretation as to which makes more sense for the player to choose.

But now we have the God Kings, which Order and Chaos are said to be the ancestors of. And for the most part they both still represent those extreme ideals; ultimate order and ultimate chaos. Darius certainly represents an ultimate freedom and destruction, even going so far as to say the only thing he promises is death and that he is “no savior”.

But then there’s Garen.

As a God King meant to represent ultimate order, and the lore for the event drilling in the idea that you either side with Garen or die or that he’s destroyed entire cities that opposed him or didn’t agree with him, I’m left wondering... just what exactly do you have to disagree with?

It states that, basically, so long as you accept Garen as your God King then you get to live and serve him. It never states exactly what that service means though. That’s really ambiguous. Does he treat people like slaves? Does he force people into bad or dangerous situations even if he knows they wouldn’t be able to handle them? (In other words, forcing people who aren’t suited to fighting to fight, rather then giving them jobs that they could handle.) If he’s truly a just king of Order, it would only make sense for him to put people in positions “where they belong”. So as long as his people obey whatever laws he’s put in place, what is the danger there? Is it unideal because of lack of freedom? But on Darius’ side everyone is going to die to no matter what.

I guess the real question in the end is whether you’d want to live as a slave or die with your free will, but again, is Garen even treating people as slaves? This is never explained as far as I can tell, and what would slavery even entail in this situation? Does have people, like... feed him grapes all day???

So even if I wasn’t going to choose Garen’s side in all this begin with, how could I ever choose Darius’ side (unless I was already a Darius fan)? Darius promises only death. You might have free will for the most part, but he’s only going to force you to fight and die anyway. At least under Garen, yes, maybe you’d be slave more-or-less, but we don’t know what that entails or the severity of it or even if it’s really all that bad in comparison. Maybe you can actually live an otherwise comfortable life, but you’d certainly get to live. And if Garen were to make you fight, surely it would only be in protection of his laws and virtues and the safety of your fellow people. Is that even slavery at that point?

(Not that any kind of slavery should be condoned, but this is all keeping with the context of the lore presented - not meant to be a real-world commentary.)

And yes, if you disagree with Garen you get wiped out. Let’s not ignore that. But again - what does ‘disagreeing’ MEAN is this context? Like, did he want strawberry jam with his toast for breakfast, but there was none left so somebody had to die?! Are we talking that level of unreasonable?
