Everyone always talks about Ubuyashiki Kagaya as some peaceful wise dude. I mean yeah, he is pretty wise and intelligent, and he seems to be the cliche wise calm mentor archetype. But I've never seen anyone point out the major flaws that make him different from a stock character.
He literally ended himself in the most violent way possible — he could've chose a more gentler death, but he decided to explode not only himself, but the entire Ubuyashiki mansion and Muzan along with it. Maybe you could say it was vital for the plan, it was vital for the plan, but that doesn’t make it normal that he was calmly willing to die so horrifyingly. Being burnt to death is literally the most painful way to die. All this just to kill Kibutsuji Muzan, and it makes sense, to be honest.
After the mansion exploded and Muzan began to regenerate, he explicitly mentioned the extreme and vicious hatred Ubuyashiki felt for him. He literally commended his intense animosity. Imagine being so full of loathing that the shameless king of demons himself is shocked by it.
A draft of the front page for the volume shows Muzan and Kagaya as twins. Maybe it's pushing things a bit, but twins in which way exactly? They are distantly related, but I don't think that's the reason why they were presented as twins.
If you know some trivia about Kagaya Ubuyashiki, you'll know that his father committed suicide at the age of 19. Kagaya's older siblings also died, leaving him as the heir at the mere age of 4. Following this, his brothers Senri and Akito commit double suicide, and his mother dies trying to save them. His father killed himself since he couldn’t bear to see demon hunters die again and again. His brothers committed suicide out of resentment of being born so sickly. Now logically, shouldn’t all of these horrific events cause Kagaya to lose his mind with loathing towards Muzan? Infact, it would've made more sense if Kagaya at least had some kind of crashout when Muzan came, but then again he was too sick to even move on his own.
So my point here is: Muzan, as a demon, feels bloodlust and a desire for violence. What if the reason why they were to be presented as twins was because Kagaya shared in that desire for violence? Actually he does share in the desire for violence — reminder he tried to burn Muzan along with himself. He even put spikes in the explosion to worsen the damage.
Ubuyashiki literally burned to defeat Muzan.
