Some thoughts on The Good Ending
The Good Ending isn’t my preferred, but I don’t really understand why people detest it so much. Conceptually I don’t think it’s terrible. It’s only terrible if you think you absolutely have to do something with your life, which obviously cant happen in TGE as it is stasis.
I have yet to hear one good reason that TGE is ‘bad’ or ‘wrong’ other than a personal dislike of the idea. I also feel like it isn’t helped given it’s a game, and obviously you want to explore things further. So TGE doesn’t end up satisfying from a gameplay standpoint.
But like if we engage in the hypothetical, I can’t really find an issue with a constant blissful existence. But I also don’t really care for having ‘meaning’ in life because ‘value’ is a subjective concept and one we entirely made up. Nothing has an inherent value or lack of it.
I guess you can argue that TGE isn’t really ‘real’ considering its manufactured by The Narrator, but that also fails to consider that TLQ, so long as he perceives that happiness to be real, then it is real. He is happy in the good ending as long as he believes that he is.
Also you can argue that it’s ‘fake’ and ‘doesn’t matter’ for pretty much everything in the game. The construct is just that—a construct. But does that necessarily mean that those experiences didn’t affect you and shape you?
When you say it’s fake you’re failing to engage in what the game is trying to tell you. When you don’t acknowledge anything presented and try to just detach yourself you end up unfinished. Held by her hands forever. How is that any better than the eternity in The Good Ending?
Like, I do understand why people dislike The Good Ending. It’s unsatisfying from the standpoint of it leaving you wanting more. But I don’t get why people claim it is a ‘bad’ ending other than a reactionary reason, or simply disliking Narrator so you automatically dislike TGE too
I would totally like to hear anyone else’s opinions on it though, and I’m willing to clarify further too. The Good Ending is the one that sparks the most interesting debates imo because pretty much everyone I’ve come across either is okay with it, or straight up hates it lol.
One of my partners went hunting for the first time this weekend. Hunting season for deer opened in our state, and he got a button buck. I was able to help clean it. It was a very profound experience for me, standing there processing a creature that had been alive less than 6 hours prior into something edible, and one I'm not entirely sure I can articulate with words. I think I will still try.
It was never my pain to carry but I held it anyway… all because i loved him.
three years and a stolen name later i redrew my motivational sanford :]

Voidwalker
The Boatem Hole Boards The Dream Cruise Ship
Ranboo stares at the two fifths of the Boatem Crew in utter confusion, though there is an inkling of hope that he might finally find out what he is exactly. Hope that he might finally get rid of the body dysphoria that comes with not knowing where the hell half of his genes come from for the majority of his life.
“What are you talking about?”
Grian goes to speak, then pauses and scratches his neck as his brown creases to form a pensive frown.
“Um… how to put this… well, alright, first, are you able to read everything that’s written in an enchanting table book?”
“Well, yeah, I am completely fluent in Galactic, if that’s what you’re asking. But that’s something related to my enderman genes, right?”
“No, it’s not. Mumbo has barely noticeable enderman genes, but he couldn’t read it until he managed to split my soul between the two of us.”
Ranboo goes to ask about what happened exactly and why such drastic measures were necessary, but snaps his mouth shut after realizing he probably doesn’t want to open that can of worms. Learning about voidwalkers is his priority right now.
“What does a soul transfer have to do with knowing the Galactic dialect?”
“Oh, well, I know Galactic because I’m a Watcher, even if I’m a rogue one, so I guess the knowledge got transferred to Mumbo along with some of my soul. The rest of Boatem knows the language too. Pearl does because she’s the Moon Goddess, and Impulse is a Warlock so he’s able to understand it because he made a pact with a celestial being from the galactic pantheon of the Nether. The same goes for Scar, who was forced to learn the galactic arts of the Vex Confraternity. A few more Hermits can as well, but we’re really an exception to the rule.”
“So Galactic speech is something that’s also connected to voidwalkers, then?”
“Yup! The voidwalkers are descendants of the Void, the founding entity of the Galactic Pantheon, so they have an innate knowledge of the language. They look the opposite of endermen, which leaves me baffled that we didn’t realize sooner that you had voidwalker genes. Sorry about that.”
Ranboo shifts uncomfortably. “No! It’s fine.”
Grian shakes his head firmly. “It’s not fine. Our admin is a voidwalker, we should’ve figured it out. If we’d realized sooner, we could’ve helped you learn about where you come from months ago. Don’t think we don’t know about how much you’ve been struggling with not knowing where half of your genes come from.”
Ranboo opens his mouth to protest, but soon realizes that Scar is right. He does wish they had realized what he was sooner.
“I guess that I am a bit frustrated about it. It’s just been, like, really hard to deal with all of–this, you know? Not even knowing what you are.”
“We get it, Ranboo, well, sort of.” Ranboo twists around abruptly at the sound of a new voice, relaxing as he sees that it’s just Mumbo. He relaxes even more when Phil closes the distance between them and wraps a wings around his shoulders, the comforting weight unraveling the tension in his shoulders.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, I’ve been dealing with a shapeshifting problem recently, as you probably know. I haven’t been in my own body in months.”
Grian is the next to speak up as his features shift until he’s sideways, literally. Ranboo blinks, squinting as he tries to ignore the headache that’s getting stronger the more he stares at the absolute mindfuck that is Grian’s appearance.
“What the fuck mate?” Yelps Phil, wings tucked tight to his body in a show of utter shock and wariness.
Grian shifts back to his usual self, letting out a trembling breath as he runs a nervous hand through his hair.
“Becoming a Watcher… comes with certain side-effects. I, um. I had to deal with my body constantly changing shape for two years before I got the hang of controlling the shapeshifting abilities that were forced upon me.”
