what are some hcs you have about the lions?
Oh, I have so many of them, but Iāll share the ones I like most! (Iām sticking to the general headcanons for now, but if youāre interested, Iād love to do a post focused on individual Lions later. )
Quick note: Iām coming from the perspective that the Lions are at least partially sentient beings.
1. The Lions are fueled not just by quintessence, but by their element.
They basically run on two kinds of energy: physical (quintessence) and spiritual (their element). Quintessence powers things like flying, firing, and forming Voltron. But their elemental energy is more like their soul. Thatās why they were āasleepā on planets where their elemental energy was strongest. I even have a small theory: over 10,000 years, most of the Lions eventually processed the loss of their first paladins ā except the Black Lion. Since she was sealed inside the Castle of Lions, she couldnāt fully let go of her connection to Zarkon. She never had a chance to move on.
2. The Lions didnāt have personalities at first.
Everything they are now comes from their bond with the paladins. The first generation laid the groundwork ā like the Blue Lionās playfulness or the Red Lionās stubborn streak. The second generation (our paladins) added the finer details. Thatās why the Lions often feel somewhere between teenagers and adults in terms of personality. They literally grow up with their paladins, picking up their habits, decisions, and emotional responses along the way.
3. They have a shared connection ā beyond their individual bonds.
If one Lion goes down, the others feel it. And itās not just a āhuh, somethingās offā kind of thing ā itās a full-on emotional blow to the chest. The same goes for the paladins. If a paladin dies, the Lions experience it not as ādeathā in a human sense, but as a deep wound. Because paladins arenāt just pilots ā theyāre literal extensions of the Lion itself. Losing a paladin is like losing a part of yourself.
4. The Lions have a very specific priority system.
Like I said before: losing a paladin is like losing a piece of your own being. So naturally, a Lion will always prioritize protecting their own paladin first. Then the other Lions. And only then, the rest of the paladins. Itās not selfishness ā itās survival instinct. The Lion almost constantly feels what their paladin is feeling, which is why they always respond fastest to their paladinās fear or pain.
