Scott is a tyranist, a dictator, a bystander and, worst of all, a monster. And he's unapologetic about all of it. Legundo hates it. Scott nearly drives Legs past his do-no-harm oath in canon. Scott has all this power and autonomy and he can do anything he wants in the world. He chooses to use that power to manipulate and abuse other people. Scott is everything that Legundo has ever hated in himself and others and he's constantly being smug about it without a care for others.

Legundo is a doctor. He helps people. He takes the resources that he can and gives them to others in this fickle attempt to help. He is consumed by guilt and emotions and things of the past that seem inconsequential and frankly meaningless to Scott. For all Scott cares, the Doc is weak. He treats some people as if they are worthy of care and others as if they are not. He extends a hand of help to some and others not. Scott finds it laughable, pathetic even. If you're going to be cruel, be cruel. If you're going to be kind, be kind. Scott is a lot of things, but he isn't two-faced. He does not give a damn about anyone and he'll keep not giving a damn until those people pass to something as below him as time.

And then they learn to not hate each other and there's nothing else to it. They coexist for a moment in time, and nothing changes. The lift of a mutual hatred doesn't make them better. They understand a little bit past the surface of the images they've painted of each other and it matters to nothing in the end.

Scott learns to change. Scott opens himself to emotion and mortality. He promises to be better. He does what Legs has been wanting and failing to do since he left the army; he gets better. He promises to improve and suddenly Legundo is looking at himself in the mirror, swearing on his medal, on his uniform as they burn in the fire he's created that he'll amend what he can of his sins in life and then pay the price for them in death.

Legundo is a soldier. He gets turned and becomes the worst version of himself that no one in Oakhurst could have seen coming. Scott only feels the tug of a new fledgling and when he actually sees Legs, the doc is standing on the edge of a cliff and drenched in blood. Legundo fights back at first but then ends up killing Martyn and makes Scott promise to a "dying man". Scott had learned to see the value in people, and for once, sees Legs not as weak or hypocritical, but as a man who is trying to help. That is what everyone around him has been trying to do. Shelby, Drift, Cleo, Pearl, hell even Abolish.

and then Legs is dead. Scott makes it out of Oakhurst. Legundo is swallowed by guilt in some faraway afterlife and Scott moves on. The lessons they learn from each other change who they are as people, maybe, but do nothing about fate.
