Prompt: Maybe in their beginning. Andy asks for archery lessons from Quynh even though she’s 3000+ years old and a fairly decent shot, but if it gets her to be closer to Quynh what does it matter, her ego can take it. Quynh’s dubious, of course, but indulges her at first, and then she actively encourages it as she wants to be closer as well and is, after all, a little shit :3
Thank you so much !!!! this prompt basically allowed me to write my favorite things about Andromaquynh aka Quynh being a little shit, Andy blushing, and the two of them having fun and being in love and that’s! it!
If her endless life depended on Quynh’s ability to describe her relationship with Andromache, she might defy the odds and the gods and immortality itself and die right then and there on the spot. They had only known each other for months and it was the strangest, most marvelous relationship that Quynh couldn’t have imagined even in her wildest dreams. They had their reasons to be cautious, sure. Neither of them had ever had a friend they could trust would stay by their side. But, emotional barriers be damned, since the moment they met, and maybe even before that, they became absolutely everything to each other. Still, this combination of adoration, trust, attraction and friendship, was a little dizzying.
That’s why Quynh found herself overthinking when, one day, while hunting for food, Andromache told her, “I wish I could shoot like that. Maybe you should help me.” Was she teasing her, testing her? Andromache was a more than good enough archer, she didn’t need any help, but-
“Sure,” Quynh agreed, mostly because Andromache had looked her in the eyes and it was impossible to say no, even in the impossible case that she had wanted to say no.
However, that little agreement would quickly develop into a really interesting dynamic.
Quynh gave Andy lessons casually, every time Andy asked, maybe three times. By the fourth lesson, Quynh caught up with what was happening. Sure, maybe it was because Quynh herself got a little lost in the feeling of Andy’s upper arm muscles flexing under her fingers while she guided her on how to shoot an arrow. But still, it finally clicked in Quynh’s mind how Andy somehow simultaneously tensed and relaxed under her touch, sometimes flinched away as if burned but always came back leaning further and further into Quynh’s hold. So, Quynh decided to have a little fun and make the most out of it.
The tables turned and then it was Quynh who constantly suggested more and more archery practice. Andy was eager, at first, and if sometimes she hesitated, as nervous as Quynh had ever seen her, Quynh didn’t tease her for it. It would have been too much. Considering she was already having the time of her life during the actual lessons. Every little touch of her fingertips dancing on Andy’s arms, all over her back, even her legs, just to innocently help her with her posture of course. Every little whispered instruction, just trying to be helpful even if accidentally brushing her lips once or twice against the shell of Andy’s ear. Quynh just wanted to help. If she also could add to her list of accomplishments making the best warrior to walk the Earth blush like a teenage girl, that was just an added bonus.
It could only last so long though. One day, with Quynh’s hands on Andy’s waist, holding her steady but making her tremble too, Andy shot an arrow so, so awfully, so incredibly far away from her target that she groaned and dropped her head in defeat.
Quynh laughed, “I know you’re struggling but you’re not usually that bad.”
“I’m not bad!” Andy exclaimed, “You’re just- you’re distracting me!” She hastily turned around to face the shorter woman, the height difference doing nothing to change the fact that she was a flustered mess and Quynh had a perfectly confident grin in place.
“Am I distracting?” Quynh raised a playful eyebrow.
Andy opened her mouth to reply, and immediately closed it. She narrowed her eyes, she clenched her fist, and she learned an important lesson about the woman she was going to spend eternity with. Forever would never be boring, not without Quynh by her side. Finally, she smiled just a little as she asked, “Were you doing it on purpose?”
Quynh, with an entirely serious, even earnest expression, took one more step forward into Andy’s personal space and said, “I would never dare.”
Laughing as happily as she only ever had with Quynh, Andy accepted that she had been played with for months, and loved every single second of it. It was her turn to step impossibly close, wrap her arms around Quynh and say, “I’m in love with you,” right before kissing the most beautiful, fascinating, exciting and precious woman she’d ever met, the love of her life.

lila bard from a darker shade of magic by v.e. schwab
She used to think that if she stole enough, the want would fade, the hunger would go away, but maybe it wasn’t that simple. Maybe it wasn’t a matter of what she didn’t have, of what she wasn’t, but what she was.
