It drives me nuts when people claim that MJ "has no personality" like it genuinely makes me feel like I'm losing my mind. What do you MEAN?? She has a very consistent personality and traits across all four movies. She is dry, acerbic, kind of a little bit mean in a way that comes from insecurity, she's really really smart, smart enough to figure out Peter is Spider-Man, but insecure enough to lie to him about why she was paying attention. She likes to draw. She's into true crime and dark stuff, probably as part of her very relatable teenage desire to cultivate an edgy persona to hide her insecurities behind. In the third movie we see her opening up a little more because she knows she can, that Peter genuinely cares for her, that she's safe with him. And in the fourth movie she's 22, not 16, so she's a little more confident in herself. But she's still a little dark, still sardonic, still smart (she helps Peter solve his problem with the inhibitor!), still likes to draw. I'm not saying she's the most fleshed out character ever, because honestly she's not, and I would love for the movies to dive deeper in her backstory and life--why doesn't she go by Watson? Why is she so afraid of hoping for good things? Where does that dark streak come from? But she absolutely has a consistent personality and interests. People have made blorbos out of far, far less.
