so i know there has been some discourse today on this character in his relationship to alina.  so here’s a little blurb on my opinion Nikolai is a super fun character he is cool to read and he is pretty kick butt imo. that being said i don’t support all his actions and i think his treatment of alina was not good at all i think that he saw a young girl he could make into his political pawn and he tried to do that.  this doesn’t mean he had no respect for alina but it was not an even playing field and he knew that.  also i think their relationship was not good.  i think there was a power imbalance that idk if i would call it predatory or anything like that but it was not a relationship i was comfortable with more like when you see the popular senior hitting on the nerdy freshman, like yeah its fine on paper and maybe he does really like her but there is an imbalance that doesn’t sit right with you and its not predatory but it is off.  so i wouldn’t say he is as bad as the darkling but he is not the golden prince some of you want him to be and honestly im glad for that.  him being a morally grey ruler makes him so much more interesting and i love him personally but i don’t think he is a ‘good’ person so to speak and i think thats something Leigh writes well is she makes morally grey characters likable at times. I don’t mean the d*rkling he is not morally grey he is just evil just so that im being clear
