"I’m Zack, a transgender and human rights defender living in Gorom settlement camp in South Sudan. We evacuated from Uganda due to the anti-gay bill that was signed by the president in 2023 that caused our flea to Kakuma refugees camp in North Western Kenya, life’s been so hard with LGBTQI members living in the camp with different nationalities and backgrounds that clearly showed our denial day by day.

While in Kenya, we were discriminated by everyone, tortured and arrested by the police and all sorts of injustices were made on us. We could hardly walk freely, involve ourselves in human activities, shelters being set ablaze and looting in our small community that was isolated.

Life in Kenya failed as we lost a couple of lives through mob justice and these acts were sometimes led by law enforcements, which is why we ran to South Sudan for safety because we can’t go back to any of those countries.

South Sudan is the worst country in everything because everybody carries a gun and soldiers make 80 percent of the population, which has put our lives in danger due to their continued aggression towards us and that they give no peace at all.

We arrived here December 2024 and UNHCR South Sudan had worked on our cases all onto the US embassy before elections. Things changed and we’re still kept captive due to the administrative laws by the current US president and has really tormented our lives.

Our cases were put on hold because of the uncertainties of war in the country, the government has given LGBTQI members in the camp 24 days now remaining 18 to leave the camp and find elsewhere.

We hereby request for your support on housing, food, water, medicine and other essential items outside the camp. We don’t deserve to be in this situation because we’ve wronged nobody but hatred because of our sexual orientation is the worst thing we’ve met in our lives.

We humbly request from well wishers and good samaritans to help provide room for our evacuation plans to try save many, because the group also contains young children and women who seem to be vulnerable at the moment. Malaria is something popular now because of lack of mosquito protection, we beg you for any donations even if it’s small it would make a change.
