There are many reasons I prefer the Marauders era over the Golden Trio era, but one of the biggest reasons is GENUINELY the absence of Dolores Umbridge.

Teach Me
(WLW!Hermione Granger x reader) 'It's imperative that you know how to perform Expelliarmus if you're to be part of Dumbledore's Army. That's why Hermione has taken it upon herself to teach you.'
They're besties :')
âSnape is a child abuserâ is definitely coming from a generation of new Gen Z fans who werenât growing up alongside the books and have failed to understand that the wizarding world is a reflection of 1970s-1990s British society and not 2025 therapy offices. Snape is an old school strict teacher who has methods - particularly towards Neville - that are mean and belittling and counterproductive but that also werenât out of place with teaching in general back then. Corporal punishment wasnât outlawed in English private schools until 1999. Nineteen Ninety Nine!! Historical context has been lost. Snape assigning cauldron scrubbing as a detention in comparison- heâs practically a softie.
Heâs meant to be understood as a bitter, jaded, petty, tired to the bone teacher who has been held back by a job heâs too ambitious and too clever for. Heâs not meant to be understood as truly abusive - because if he was, Harry would be deploying his usual coping mechanisms (conflict avoidance) instead of what he actually does, which is mouth off at Snape at every possible opportunity. Itâs basic genre convention that every boy hero in a boarding school novel needs an antagonist teacher to put in his place while all the children cheer, lol. Itâs not that deep.
Severus was designed so that kids at the time would see him as the classic rude, miserable teacher who ruins all the fun, is super strict, and seems to live to make sure you canât do whatever you want. This was a very common archetype in fiction for those of us born in the â90s or earlier. He wasnât created for people to think he was a child abuser but to remind you of that teacher who always gave everyone bad grades because they were extremely demanding, snapped at you for asking a question they thought was stupid, or seemed to live for catching students doing something wrong just to punish them.
We grew up with tons of characters like that (Miss Finster from Recess comes to mindâshe basically lived to catch T.J. doing something wrong). They werenât characters you saw as crossing a line with students, because EVERYONE had at least one teacher like that. The person we clearly saw as an abuser was Umbridge, but thatâs because Umbridge wasnât just about ruining funâshe wanted to repress and dominate the students. She physically harmed them and hurt them, abusing her institutional power. She was the character who scared you and made you angry. Thatâs why in the 2000s people hated her even more than Voldemortâbecause we had all either had a teacher like her, knew someone who had one, or heard horror stories about those teachers.
I feel like Gen Z doesnât understand what it was like to grow up surrounded by boomers with zero emotional management skills who had done no self-work, and instead live in a paradise of Gen X and millennial teachers you can follow on social media. Honestly, they have a totally distorted view of things.
Anyone born in the â90s or earlier can clearly see the intention behind Severus as a teacher and what kind of archetype he representsâand they donât associate him with someone abusive. Rowling wrote those books at a specific time for an audience that would understand that. Iâm sorry some people were born 20 years later, but that doesnât change the facts.

dirty little secret
draco malfoy x f!reader
đđď¸âď¸đŤď¸đ§¸
summary: you're done being draco's dirty little secret
word count : 846
song: mary on a cross - ghost
I don't know why, I just felt like writing this
---------------------------------------------------------------
Harrys hand burned. There was this indescribable pinching feeling, this kind of pain that he couldn't describe. But more than anything, his ego hurt.
He examined his hand. The words "I must not tell lies" were cut into the back of his hand in a way that it looked like his messy scrawl.
Now what should I do about this? He thought to himself.
If Ron and Hermione saw, they would tell him to go to Dumbledore. But he couldn't do that. That would mean that the nasty little toad wins.
Harry had skipped quidditch practice and dinner was already over. No one was supposed to be in the halls. He kept examining his hand and pondering over what to do when he bumped into a tall black mass.
Harry stumbled back and looked up to see who he ran into, "Proffesor Snape", he said surprised.
Snape took one look at his face and grabbed his hand. Harry knew it was no use to try to pull away from Snape's vice-like grip. He could see Snape's eyes tracing the gashes across his skin.
And then without another word, he released Harrys hand and left, cloak billowing behind him so he looked like a bat.
---
It smelled vile. The fumes coming from his concoction smelled like something that shouldn't exist in the world.
And the potion looked a nasty brown shade when it should've been an emerald green. Well that was that, he failed his assingement.
The sharp pain in his hand dulled down to a sort of itchy irritation.
He might as stop trying to save his assignment and continue staring at Draco Malfoy, whos brow was furrowed in concentration.
cute, Harry thought.
A clink of glass against the table interrupted his Malfoy staring session. He looked up to find Snape hovering over him, "take one swig before bed every night", Snape said with his usual disdain. "And your potion looks miserable," and then he stalked away to inspect Nevils potion which started to bubble ominously.
---
It couldn't hurt to try it, Harry thought after a solid 10 minutes of staring at the vial that Snape gave him.
The light blue liquid shimmered at him placidly.
Unless he's trying to poison you...., a voice at the back of his head said darkly.
Compelled by some unknown forces, Harry opened the stopper and took a swig of the potion. He wiped his mouth with the back of his sleeve, taking off any residual blue substance.
Then suddenly he noticed a relief. A sort of cooling down in the itch on his hand.
And the cause of this relief was Snape of all people.
---
It had been a week since he had been regularly going to detention in Umbridges office. And although the potion had stopped the pain, it did nothing for the scarring and Harry, as foolish as he was, couldn't put aside his ego to ask Snape for help.
It could be a trap...He told himself.
He might just be trying to gain your trust, Harry thought.
His train of thought wandered as he began contemplating on ways that Snape would try killing him. He even got so invested, that he didn't notice Snape, hovering near a suit of armor, seemingly waiting for him to walk by.
"Potter" Snape said with his usual contempt.
Harry jumped, scared out of his mind, This is it, this is how I die, and I never even got the chance to tell Draco I love him-WHAT, NO, I DONT LIKE DRACO, WHY WOULD I EVER THINK THAT?
"Come with me" Snape said to him as he stalked of, leaving Harry to scamper in his wake, trying to process what he was doing with himself.
---
"This is what that ministry midget is doing, see?" Snape yelled, brandishing a confused Harrys wrist at Dumbledore. Harry awkwardly stood next to Snape with his hand shoved Infront of Dumbledores face.
Dumbledore said nothing, just started calmly at Snape.
"WHY ARE'NT YOU DOING ANYTHING?" Snape yelled at him.
This came as quite a shock to Harry, first of all, he had never seen Snape lose his composure, and he never expected him to lose his composure...over Harry of all people.
"Well, what did you expect Severus, this is how she plans to exact disipline over my school" Dumbledore said placidly.
Snapes face started to go red, lets just say that he didn't expect to go back to the common room anytime soon...
---
tbh I don't really know how to end this....
