The real treasure was the fancy hat we found along the way.
As a rule of thumb, if you have to dig it up it's a crime, but if you can just yoink it then it's a-okay.

a series of illustrations depicting the story of sture wolff and the troll prince, a knight in medieval pareidolia sweden who has a number of tales spun around him, which also vary in details depending on who tells it (most notably, human vs troll retellings). these are specifically more from a troll perspective if that isn't obvious lol...
these were done for a class assignment, and are a bit of a compositional homage to the åsmund series of illustrations by gerhard munthe, the first two specifically inspired by Åsmund Goes Up to the Door in the Rock (1902) and The Fifth Hall (1902) :) more under the cut...
sture wolff is often used as a bit of a cautionary tale from the nordic troll perspective, warning of the "fickle" nature of man and that getting too involved with them is a Bad Idea. the figure of sigrid (the human woman, who in the story falls in love with the "troll prince" two-tusk bluebelly) is in many of those versions also a cunning figure herself, betraying two-tusk in the end and having been the one to lead sture to the hidden troll village in the first place. but there are versions, especially the older ones, where she defends him in the end, and never betrayed him.
obvs human versions of the story are more "expected" like other knightly hero folklore stories of its time, where sture through cunning figures out how to reveal the hidden troll village (with fire) and saves sigrid from the bluebelly, who in this version, curses sigrid to fall in love with him.
in universe this story is based on what was likely Real People, and the "bluebelly village" was a real troll settlement that was destroyed at some point in time, and it's a bit unclear what actually happened to everyone involved in the end.
