Summer is here. Grateful for bbqs with my family, cute boys to snorkel with, cold kombucha after a hot run, asparagus and veggie burgers and friends that will swim in the ocean with me. What a life!

Composition is a bit tricky with this one. I have to make sure that one doesn't outshine the other. Dun dun duuuuun...! 🥁

JUNE MILES & JULY INTENTIONS: June: 133 miles fun, (lots of swimming, strength & biking) So this month had many many ups & downs in terms of training & just life! Some weeks I got all the miles in & some weeks I didn’t! As many of you know my knee has been pretty wonky these past few weeks so my running speed & intensity has decreased & biking has become nonexistent. With all of this I’m just going into the 10k as a fun run & the sprint triathlon as a bucket list type race. I’m looking forward to these racing this week & then I’m planning on taking an entire week or so off running. I’m hoping that will help with my knee & any other pain I’ve been having. Then I’m going to start rebuilding my base and working towards my 20 miler before my 20th birthday! So July will start with racing, then recovery & then the last two weeks will be rebuilding mileage & lots of strength. I will admit I did just okay with my June intentions. I didn’t try meditating because I was just so crazy busy and at times overwhelmed. So I’m hoping my July intentions reflect that! I’m going to try to slow down because I tend to overwhelm myself & I know once I hit August my life will be going full force ahead. In terms of having patience this is just something I need to practice in regards to those around me & the kids I deal with everyday. I need to understand that sometimes you just need to take a deep breath & try to see things from someone else’s point of view. I would like to try doing one selfless thing a day. I tend to be very passionate in my goals, but many of these goals are self serving. I also want to cut down on social media & screen time. I spend wayyyy to much time on my phone & it’s a waste of time! I’m looking forward to this month & all the new memories to be made! Here’s to a new month :)
Rode 33 miles and ran 15 minutes yesterday. Went with a few people to a event and we did the 33 mile loop. The weather was perfect and the rain held off for us. The first 10 miles were a great pace and I hope I can start getting my speed a bit more. I picked up my beautiful trinity the day before so maybe I can actually start getting use to my tri bike. I’ve got an Olympic distance in 2 weeks, so I’m not sure which bike I’ll ride. I may take my tri bike out tomorrow for a short ride to see how comfortable I am on it. We’ll see. Run was good. I didn’t stay in zone 2. 😬

fastest 2 miles! and it was all in the 11 range 🌞🌞 crazy how much the heat makes a difference in how far I can run though. Similar pace to my four miles on saturday but is was 15 degrees cooler then. Got a crazy stitch in my side at the beginning of the second mile too.
total miles run: 20 🔥
Day 3
Shit finally got real today in morning training.
1 x 200 freestyle (warm-up)
6 x 150 as 50 free, 50 IM, 50 free
16 x 50 freestyle with paddles and pool buoy
16 x 50 freestyle full stroke (emphasis on kick)
16 x 50 freestyle with paddles and pool buoy (emphasis on stroke length)
4 x 200 kick. IM order.
Total: 4.3k
Today my coach (in his ineffable wisdom) abruptly pulled me aside while I was struggling through the third 16 x 50 set and declared that I was breathing on both sides (I was doing one breath every three strokes.) He then deemed this an archaic practice, denouncing it’s efficacy and deriding it as a misguided stroke technique of the ‘80s. (All of this was about breathing once every three strokes for freestyle.)
He then decreed that I swim breathing on the same side the entire time. (This would mean that I’d breathe on an even number of strokes so one breath every 2, 4, or 6 strokes.) He asserted that the 8 fastest freestyle swimmers in China all did this.
He hesitated, appearing to consider what he’d say next, (The coach always knows what’s next.) then clarified that the 8 fastest freestyle swimmers in China were all highly capable of breathing on both sides but had found single-sided breathing to be far more effective.
So there a tip for you aspiring swimmers/triathletes/iron-men if you guys wanted it.
If any of you guys are confused about this quasi-philosophical discussion on breathing, that’s ok, I am too.
~MONTHLY MILES & INTENTIONS~ April miles: 142 May miles: 125 Hey guys these are my intentions for the month:) I am going to start doing this to track my own progress & keep myself accountable! April was full of half marathon peak week, taper, the actual race & more rest! A hard month of training & just a lot of taper pains & kinks! It all worked out in the end & I ran the best race :) This month had some cross training, but a little less than usual. As for may! I spent a large portion of this month just getting back into the swing of things after the half. I ran some low mileage weeks & have been keeping my weeks around 30 miles while I train for the triathlon. Lots of changes this month with moving back home for the summer & going a different gym, having a new schedule etc. I have been loving swimming especially & biking isn’t half bad. I haven’t been taking as many classes this month, but still lifting & doing strength work. June is already going well, but I want to continue working on my speed! As for swimming I want to be swimming there times a week & build endurance. For biking I am going to transition to outdoor biking. I want to keep building my strength & get those pull ups💪🏻 Also exciting stuff, but I have somewhat planned out my remaining weeks of summer with running. I’m hoping to have my peak before the 10k & the triathlon in abiht two weeks. Then taper & back to back race days on July 4th & July 8th! After that I’m going to take some time off running. Maybe 5 days. Then back into long distance training! I’m after taking a week off there will be about 7 weeks until my 20th birthday. So 7 weeks to work up to 20 miles. I’m looking at long runs of 10 miles, 13, 11, 15, 11, 17 & 20! If I have to take a break from the long runs I’ll just skip the 17 miler. It looks like the 20 miler will fall during the first week of school😂 I had wanted to get it done before going back to school, but it’s simply not possible. Anyway those are my goals! Also looking into an October or November half! I need something to train for guys! Anyway that’s it let’s make it a good month :)
