This morning, I made a post-cancer 5k PR at a local race. Chip time was 32:19 with a 6:27 pace/km. Not bad for a middle aged, stage 4 cancer patient with a broken neck! lol. I’m also on the last day of my chemo cycle which always makes me extra-fatigued.
I felt tired - but I’m always tired. I did have pain and stiffness when running but it was the “usual” amount. I felt slightly overheated but not too bad. It’ll be shorts weather soon.
I took 1 hydromorphone (1mg) and 1 extra strength Tylenol about 90 minutes before the race. I also made sure I was well hydrated (used a Nuun electrolyte tablet) and ate a little breakfast. I had a piece of toast with peanut butter and 1/2 a banana.
This race was full of elite athletes with probably 90% of them belonging to run clubs. I was just passing the 2km mark and some runners were already finishing. They were insanely fast!
The kid also came to cheer me on which was so nice. It was such a beautiful day! ☀️
FYI: For context, when I was young and healthy, I could do 5k’s in 25 minutes so I was always just a “middle-of-the-packer”.
Nowadays, I feel very slow and lame but at the same time, I’m also very proud. It’s a conundrum, I know. 🤪 My last 5k took me over 40 minutes, so shaving off almost 8 minutes is pretty awesome - if I do say so myself. lol.
This past week, I met my distance goal of 50km. This week’s goal is 55km’s.
running: November, 2025

love a chill morning
… like, every morning. (working on getting back to it after half year off).
Daughter and I went to see Hozier in concert last night. We had a great night. We did not get home until after midnight so todays long run seemed longer and harder. It was well worth it though. When I sat on the bench pictured above a bee came and landed on the leg of my flowery tights, guess they looked like real flowers to that wee bee. The wind was really chilly today and strong, there were many snake stops to get me through. Not sure how long I will keep doing 20km long runs but I do enjoy them. I was going to do the next race in the 10km series we have been doing but we still have not got the medals from the beach run. I am reluctant to enter if you don't get what you paid for.
