Day 3 #WEARESTEMSQUAD Today’s topic is Field Immunology through Virology #dropout to Software Program Development ( Science => Technology) ⚗️💻⌨️👩🏼🔬 There’s just something intriguing about a natural born #killer, isn’t there? Actually, #viruses don’t really want to kill you at all. They need you to survive but they tend to “accidentally” murder a sh** ton of people while trying to form a ‘symbiotic”-type relationship. Viruses use their hosts’ molecular machineries to propagate themselves. ☠️👾☠️👾☠️ When I was working on my #undergrad, I had the opportunity to immerse myself into a variety of wickedly different topics of research. I was lucky enough to find myself working under an Immunologist, Toxicologist, and Biotechnologist right from the start. That’s when I started to realize how insane the war between our #immunesystem and viruses truly is. 💉💊 Viruses only exists because the #host exists – without the hosts, the viruses disappear. How can viruses be so badass and so vanilla at the same time? Not all are like that, just most. Some viruses are not “lytic” and don’t kill their hosts but instead remain #dormant. Then, when some sort of environmental cue occurs, the virus is “activated” and will start to wreck havoc and smoosh face. It’s crazy though because they really are evolutionary-perfected machines which is why I was so obsessed with this profession. 🔪🔪🔪 However, my love for #adventure, #travel, #volunteerism, and #remotework was the next career hurdle to accomplish. After bailing on my PhD (not proud of that), and a few too many #backpacking trips later, I now find myself as a computer coder! And I couldn’t’ be happier. I get the lifestyle I want and get the opportunity to learn an entirely new field. 🌎🌍🌏 What’s weird to think about is that Technology will soon no longer be a field of its own. As I read early, Technology is pervasive, coding skills are now useful in every industry and (much like myself) you can be self-taught. Get on the train before its too late! #techsquad 💫✨💫 #wearestemsquad #womeninSTEM #research #immunology #programming #globecoder #travelingcoder #mexicocity #immunology #virology #womeninsciene #womenwhocode (at Mexico City, Mexico)
