I had no idea what he transformed into in IDW, so I made the decision to make him a two-wheeler since I wanted him to be a bit fragile and meek.
Trepan is the same race as Arcee. Other two-wheelers in the game will include Flamewar and Ransack.
I'm not the type to think boob plates only go on she/her robots. If it's just metal and Trepan is based on Arcee, he's also getting boobs.
For some reason, Trepan never used his goggles in IDW. So I made my Trepan far-sighted and he uses glasses when reading or operating.
I gave Trepan orange pupils because I wanted him to have a sharper gaze. He is meant to be a very suspicious character so the reader wants to attack him.
I did not think that mnemosurgery would fit in Transformers: Prime because it would defeat the purpose of the cortical psychic patch. I gave him scalpels in his fingers instead of needles (now he's Overlord's cat).
In the past, Trepan was Cybertron's top brain surgeon. He became friends with Froid as they both shared interest in understanding how the mind worked.
Trepan is a non-combatant medic. I made up this concept based on First Aid in G1. In Mercy, non-combatant medics are bound by oath to treat any injured bot no matter their faction. They cannot fight in battles. So Ratchet is not one of these. Anyone wearing the medic mark instead of an insignia is one of these non-combatant medics. This mark comes from Pharma's wings and First Aid's shoulder in IDW.
Non-combatant medics stay with the Autobots because Decepticons simply don't allow for medics that don't fight and would treat Autobots. However, Trepan is an exception permitted by Overlord. Trepan used to be an Autobot non-combatant medic before switching sides for reasons unknown.
I heard the voice dub for MTMTE and I have to admit that the voice for Trepan just kinda makes everything funnier now that I have a proper voice to put the words to. Like that is definitely not the voice I imagined for Trepan originally but now that it's in my head it's definitely putting some things into additional subtext that wouldn't be there if he didn't have that voice.
Like originally I was kinda with the popular head canon that Trepan was a bit of a hack.
But now that I'm hearing the voice, my new (and more funny) head canon is that Trepan is the equivalent of:
That one ancient ass old man that has been in his niche profession for so goddamn long that he's the unofficial default authority to almost everything, and if he leaves for a week, he comes back to either complete chaos or finds absolutely nothing has gotten done in his absence, there is no in between.
But also, like he's so butfuck old and so obvious about it, he's a cryptid in his own right, he's one of those old people who makes you think either that he's going to keel over today or that he's going to live so long he outlives everyone.
So old that the current now, in that old man's opinion, no matter how shitty it is, is always better than Before, and views the current regime as progressive, purely because back in his day arsenic was in everything and the old man was around long enough to remember when botflies and formaldehyde in milk was an actual issue- so the takes on current society range from absolutely 100 percent correct and weirdly progressive even considering the current times to shit that really makes you wanna punch him in the throat due to rancid takes, either way talking to him is a wild ride.
Which in that perspective makes it all the more hilarious the events that happen in canon if Trepan really is that One Old Guy TM, because it would mean that all the shenanigans and situations that the reader sees Trepan get up to in canon is in the context of this mech being the Cybertronian equivalent to a tiny 60-90 year old grandpa.
And by extension Overlord's interest in Trepan is also equally made 100x more ridiculous and simultaneously more understandable by the sheer fact that Overlord is canonically born in 4 million bce, and if Megatron is considered "not that old"/not very old by Optimus, and Megatron was born in the very early 5 million ish bce era, then by default Overlord's age roughly when he meets Trepan would be like, the equivalent of early to mid teens.
I am a big Trepan fan and i know hes and asshole XD hes just fun to watch. But one thing pisses me of and thats what they did to my baby boi.
So i decided to do a little redesign becouse i like him more like bug than some orange little evil Rung clone.
i decided to give him the look of Devil Flower Mantis becouse they are badass and bonus that they are relited to the praying Mantis... which kinda remid me of caminus :P
and they are just awsome XD (and they sometimes cut the head of the males.. fuck you Overlord)
