Tithing wasn’t instituted during the time of Moses, it was made even around Adam’s time. “And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering” Gen 4:4. Abel gave a firstling (first born offspring) as an offering unto the Lord. The same principle existed throughout generations even with Abraham who gave tithes to Melchizedek; Gen 14:20, and Jacob who promised the Lord at Bethel “.. and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee” Gen 28:22.
“And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the LORD'S: it is holy unto the LORD.” Lev 27:30
“Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:” Prov 3:9
The system of benevolence that God designed was for our good. As sinful as we are, we are inclined to have a selfish heart, but His system continually teaches us to have humility. Tithing is still binding in our time even as before “Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye” 1Cor 16:1. God does not require of us to tithe out of necessity, it is a test for all humanity to see where our hearts stand in regards to love. Remember that charity “seeketh not her own” 1Cor 13:5. “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth cheerful giver.” 2Cor 9:7.
