bailey and john’s house felt a little bit more lived in than ever with anna’s presence. you were sitting down on the playing mat, surrounded by the toys they had bought for her, while john and tim were sitting on the couch drinking beer and bailey was finishing making some dinner
“so, what is going to happen with her now?” you asked
“luna said she can stay with us while they locate some family member or a foster family that can take her” nolan answered and you could see the hesitation in his eyes, he had already become attached to the little girl and you couldn’t blame him, she had been an angel since he picked her up at the crime scene
you just nodded and said “i can’t even begin to imagine what this little angel has been through,” you brushed away some hair from her face as she looked down to play with a plushie “it’s good that you guys took her in for a while, she needs all the love she can get” after a small silence, you said “and, as much as i love baby time, i need to go to the bathroom” you got up and made your way inside the guest bathroom on nolan’s hallway. after finishing up, you washed your hands and walked back out ready to keep playing with anna but as you rounded the corner back to the living room you stopped and were left speechless. there was tim, holding baby anna in his arms in a way that looked like it was second nature to him. he was smiling at her while she grabbed as much of his cheeks as she could with her little hands. tim tickled her softly, making her squeak and later hide her little face on the crook of his neck as she clutched the dark blue henley he had tossed on before leaving your house
tim noticed you were standing there, staring at him, so he turned to look at you and he gave you a big smile while moving anna so he could fully hold her only with his left arm and he could grab the fox plushie she tossed to the floor
you walked close to them, grabbing the fox from tim’s hand so you both could entertain anna for a while before you had to go back home
they would be such great parents. you smiled even more, almost sure you imagined hearing bailey mumble the words behind her wine glass

it would be a lie to say you had never imagined having kids. you always had maternal instincts –celina and tamara always made sure to remind you of that– but never had been sure of anything because the work schedule of two cops was stressful enough without a kid in the middle. you had had that conversation with tim before; you knew he had wanted kids, but his marriage with isabel had left him scarred, and he didn’t know if he was ready. you had also thought about it and considering all the horrible things you guys dealt with in your day-to-day, you had decided to wait until the timing felt right
but, seeing tim holding anna had your head running, filling with images of a baby that’s the perfect mix between tim and you–his blue eyes and your hair, giggling just as anna had been earlier. you thought about holding them, loving them, and reading them bedtime stories. you also thought about tiny clothes, how tim would teach them how to play sports or how you would teach them how to bake on a quiet sunday afternoon. you were in the middle of brushing your teeth when you blurted it out before even being able to stop yourself “i want one”
tim stopped whatever he had been doing on his phone and looked up “want what?” he asked
“a baby” you said, spitting out the toothpaste on your mouth. tim let out a dry laugh “i’m being serious, tim” you deadpanned “i think we should have a kid”
“you’re a hundred percent serious, sweetheart?” he asked, making his way to you in the bathroom
“yeah” you breathed out, turning to be facing the mirror “i mean, i think it’s the perfect time” tim walked closer to you until he was standing behind you. you leaned back into him, your back pressed to his chest “i mean, it would be the perfect time now that i am sergeant and you are back to the station” he presses his nose to your hair, leaving a chaste kiss in the top of your head “i could cut in the hours, delegate a bit more–” he chuckled, mumbling a faint that’s a lie and tossed your hair to your left shoulder “tim, i’m serious.” you sighed “we can talk more about this another day, take all the time we need to think about it” you looked at him through the mirror
“i don’t know what’s there to think about” he started, ducking down to press kisses on the right side of your neck “you want us to have a kid, who am i to say no to you?” you hummed happy, satisfied with your husband’s response
“tim–” you breathed out, eyes closed, close to say something else when the sound of your phone dragged you out of the moment. tim sighed, closing his eyes, and reluctantly pulled away, you turned around and bit your lower lip “raincheck?”
“you bet your ass” he pecked your lips before fully stepping back so you could check your phone. angela and nyla had texted your groupchat saying aaron had found some evidence linked to one of your cases but you only replied that you would see it in the morning. you turned off your phone and threw yourself on the bed, falling asleep almost immediately

the day had been smooth sailing so far. it had been a couple of weeks after that afternoon at nolan and bailey’s house. grey had nolan riding with you, telling him he would take celina with him for the day. nolan had spent the majority of the morning talking about his and bailey’s decision to become parents, which would’ve been something cute and worth hearing if it wasn’t the fourth time he mentioned the fertility doctor and the appointment they had to have to get tested
that’s why you couldn’t help but feel relieved —and like a horrible friend— when you saw a woman and a man running out scared of a convenience store while you were waiting for the light to turn green. “nolan, look to your right” you calmly said “park there and call it”
you both got out of the shop and made your way towards the store’s entrance confirming your suspicions once you saw one armed man inside the store pointing at the cashier while yelling at him to give them all the money
“7-adam-15. we got a 211 armed, send backup” you spoke into the radio as nolan stood guarding the door “ready?” he just nodded and you both made your way inside the store. the man hadn’t seen you yet so you positioned yourself behind some shelves, which was helpful since you had been able to get a secure position from where you could take a clean shot if necessary. nolan was behind another shelf by the entrance of the store, but before any of you could take the shot, the guy behind the counter saw you and started shooting at your direction, you took cover, shooting back but the guy managed to get past nolan —after hitting him hard on the head— and ran outside
you ran to where nolan was on the floor grabbing his head but as you kneeled to check on him, he swat your hand away, groaning a go, i’m fine
you went out after the guy as fast as you could but he was aware of your presence so instead of running away he started shooting again only this time the bullet hit you straight in your outer thigh. the bullet’s impact sent you flying back, making you fall to the ground. with a pained groan you reached for your radio and said “7-adam-15. the suspect is on the loose. shots fired, officer down, i need an ra to my location”
the journey to the hospital had been a blast. bailey had arrived to the scene on the ambulance and made a quick exam on the way over
you were sitting on a bed in a hospital room wearing a pair of black shorts, uniform pants discarded, after being physically cleared by the doctor. you were waiting for the blood test’s results when you saw tim barging in the room
“before you say anything,” you started “i’m fine. it was a clean shot, didn’t hit anything important. it’ll be like nothing happened in a matter of time”
“how many times do i have to ask you to be careful?” he asked with a sigh and you rolled your eyes
“come on, it's not like i asked the guy to shoot me. besides, better me than a civilian” you said shrugging then making a face when the shrug made the wound hurt
“you’re lucky it didn’t kill you” he breathed put against the top of your head, his arms coming up around your body to hug you
you rolled your eyes “come on tim, it was a bullet to the leg not to anywhere else”
“it doesn’t matter, okay?” he grunted
“how’s nolan?” you asked, cutting him off “the guy hit him pretty bad”
“he’s good” tim let out a breath “just a bump and a small cut on the forehead, they are discharging him later” you breathed out relieved, nodding. before you could say anything else, the doctor made her way into the room and tim sat down next to you
“blood results came clean, you have a picture bill of health” she said with a smile, “although, there is a high level of hcg in your blood work” you suck in a breath “congratulations, you’re pregnant” tim and you froze at her words. “i want to keep you another while for observation, but in about two hours or so you can get going”
“thank you, doc” she nodded before making her way out of your room. the silence was deafening, neither of you moved or said anything for a while
“so,” you were the one to break the silence “a baby”
“yeah,” you turned to tim, who had a big smile on his face “a baby” you bit your lower lip to hold your smile but failed “that was fast” he laughed out and you hit him in the shoulder
“are you happy with that?” you asked nervously
he looked at you, almost offended at your question, and lifted his hands to cup your face “this is the best thing that’s ever happened to me” he was beaming “we’re gonna have a baby”
you nodded with tears in your eyes “we’re gonna have a baby” you said and let out a giggle as he leaned closer and kissed you

angela was the first one to notice your pregnancy, she had been bothering you all morning since you asked to stay back at the station for the day, and as the amazing detective she was, she noticed everything. your trips to the bathroom every once in a while, your lack of coffee, and how you had snapped at smitty more times than you would’ve liked—although they were deserved—and huffed right after with tears in your eyes
by the time lunch hour rolled around, she had bought you a burger with fries and made her way to your desk. “spill” she said putting down the container and you knew she knew
“what am i supposed to spill?” you asked, a playful look on your face
“how far along are you?” she cut to the end
“fifteen weeks, give or take” you answered honestly, “i haven’t told anyone because i don’t want to make it a big thing, okay?”
“does tim know?” she asked and you just nodded “he was there when the doctor told me the good news” you opened the container “oh, this looks amazing” you licked your lips “i could kiss you right now”
“i would rather you didn’t” you heard tim’s voice coming closer to your desk “lopez, what are you doing to my wife?”
she just laughed and shrugged “anything to get her to be my wife next” and she winked “congrats, dad” she whispered the last part before making her way to her and nyla’s desk
tim turned to you with a confused expression “you told her?”
“she realized all on her own, i just confirmed it” you shrugged reaching for the fries inside the box “besides it was just a matter of time before you told her. she’s your bff” he looked at you and shrugged in agreement “i’m a grown man, i don’t have bffs”
you laughed and said “sure you don’t, big man” as he walked away
