Bed! Time! Stories! Who doesn't love the idea of the two of them telling each other bedtime stories when they need it? Also the callback in the last chapter is a perfect example of how to do the +1 right on a 5+1.

Summary: For the first time ever, David pays rapt attention to the spreadsheet Patrick insists on showing him. There’s a list of things that will be covered under the joint account, like rent and groceries and vehicle upkeep, and then they’ll each keep a separate account for individual expenses. Patrick repeats the fact that clothing and toiletries will be considered individual expenses multiple times, but David is still too starry-eyed about the casual way he said ‘our household expenses’ to even consider arguing.

Then David notices something odd, off in its own section below their estimated rent and utilities.

Summary: Patrick doesn’t respond correctly - because Patrick has never once responded correctly to David being horrible. He just takes another sip of tea, and fucking smiles again. “What?” David snaps. “Nothing, I just-” He stops, mouth still open, sound still somewhere in his throat. Then he laughs again. It’s quieter this time, more to himself, like he’s surprised himself with it. It’s infuriating, and it’s adorable, and David doesn’t get it. 

Or, five times Patrick almost said "I love you", and one time David said it first.

These scenes are lovely, even when they aren't purely fluff. David's point of view is warm and fond and so in character, and how much he loves Patrick is suffused in every line.

Gosh I love caretaker!David so much and this author writes that a lot, but this is a particularly fluffy and sweet example. It's just late night making out, what else could we ask for?

This is the most wonderful piece of domestic fluff I've read all year. Patrick decides to plant a garden with varying levels of success throughout the process. David is the world's must supportive husband and it's way to cute for words. I can say from personal experience that the roller-coaster of Patrick's garden is very accurate to reality!

This is such a sweet look at the multiple times they drove past the house before Patrick stopped to ask about buying it. It shows how in this Patrick was from the start and how much he's always paid attention to the things David likes and cares about.

I love a good early relationship fic, and they're very cute in this one, with Patrick attempting to engage David in a game of I Spy at a craft fair. There's cotton candy and beer and coffee and flowers and kisses and just the two of them being very them.
