I think that my favorite part of the Sorcerer’s Stone is that each faculty member was given a task to protect the stone. And since the Stone was taken out of the vault specifically that year (because it was in its own vault for who knows how long before that), that means that every professor was given the task by Dumbledore in order to protect it. Like he literally told his Staff, probably in separate rooms because Snape had a hard time getting past Fluffy--

Dumbledore: I’ma need you to make this shit hard as possible. Staff: I got you.

So Hagrid chose the biggest, freakin’ animal that you could put in the school. Madame Hooch used Flying, while Professor Flitwick enchanted several keys to fly in the air. McGonagall used Wizard Chess (like damn, girl, you scary). Professor Sprout installed Devil’s Snare (damn girl, you scary too). And I wished that they had featured Snape’s task in the movie, too, because his task was about choosing the right (and god forbid, the wrong) potion in order to move on to the task. And Quirrell’s service to the Sorcerer’s stone was to use a troll. Then Dumbledore went ahead and stuck that Mirror of Erised in there like This bitch just went through all these fucking tasks just to stare at himself wanting it like mad. 

August 1st

“Watch out! Don't let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life. Don't let that day catch you unaware, like a trap. For that day will come upon everyone living on the earth. Keep alert at all times. And pray that you might be strong enough to escape these coming horrors and stand before the Son of Man.” - Luke 21:34-36

Insight

Jesus told the disciples to keep a constant watch for his return. Although nearly 2,000 years have passed since he spoke these words, their truth remains: Christ is coming again, and we need to watch and be spiritually fit. This means working faithfully at the tasks God has given us.

Challenge

Don't let your mind and spirit be dulled by careless living, drinking, or the foolish pursuit of pleasure. Don't let life's anxieties overburden you, so that you will be ready to move at God's command.
