Characters: Kozume Kenma, Kuroo Tetsurou
Today's volleyball practice and Kenma is running late. He stayed up all night playing the new game he downloaded in his play station causing him to wake up past the call time and will probably get a scolding once he arrived at the school.
Kenma never bothered to hurry, he was already late anyway, so he took his PSP from his pocket and started playing his favorite video game. Busy defeating the villaim in the game he plays, he wasn't looking at the road. It was a village and only a few just come passing by, nothing dangerous is gonna happen to him.
He didn't even notice a guy blocking his way. He was too focused on the game to the point that his head bumped into the guy's shoulder. A second later, the guy snatched Kenma's PSP and put it in his pocket.
"How many times do I have to tell you that playing games while walking is too dangerous?" The guy, Kuroo, said. He was annoyed at what he witnessed.
"I didn't see you there," Kenma answered with a poker face.
"Of course you didn't because you couldn't take your eyes off your game!" Kuroo started walking, leaving the young man behind.
Kenma followed him, staring at Kuroo's pocket where his PSP was slightly peeking. He tried to think of a way on how to get it but it seems like Kuroo knows what he's thinking. .
"Don't even try, you won't get it until we're at the school."
After that, they both remained silent. They rode a bus that took them to Nekoma High School. It was a miracle that no one was talking. Kuroo being the active guy he is, always talks about anything to Kenma. From how his day went, to how he got home. Kenma then realized that this time, Kuroo is dead serious.
Kenma likes Kuroo. Not as his bestfriend but romatically, but he never told the latter. He thought it was unnecessary and was just infatuation. The thought that Kuroo cares for him almost everyday makes his heart flutter in glee yet as usual, he acted like it was nothing.
As soon as they arrived the gym, Kuroo immediately handed the PSP back to Kenma. He's already his usual self, smiling, jolly, and his signature smirk is once again painted on his face.
"Next time, walk. Walk only. Alright?"
Kenma silently nodded. He went to their coach and immediately said his sorry. Luckily, it was his first time being late in a practice, so the coach let it slide. But next time, he was sure he has to do a lap of diving drills.
He started warming up beside Kuroo who's already in his practice clothes and is also doing his warm up.
"You have lunch?" Kuroo asked while stretching.
"I don't have the time to ask my mom lunch. I'll just eat at the cafeteria."
"Eat mine," Kuroo replied.
"Are you nuts? What will you eat then?" Kenma asked. His eyes a bit wide than his usual look.
"I'm just kidding, dummy. I prepared yours, too. I know you too well, Kenma. Can you please eat a lot of food? You're getting skinnier."
Kenma said nothing and continued on what he's doing. As soon as he's done, he left Kuroo who's talking with the team adviser and started practicing his serves like what the others are doing.
He waited for Lev to finish before serving. He muttered a curse in his mind when the ball went out of bounds. Today was not his day, he claims it. He went to get another ball again and started to serve, but it seems like the world is not in his favor because the ball didn't even get past the net.
"Kenma, don't be sloppy and fix your serves! Are you not in the mood?" Kuroo asked from the other side of the gym, still talking with the team adviser.
Unfortunately, he didn't. Even his tosses we're either near the net, or too high for the spiker to reach. He shrugged his shoulders and stopped thinking about it. He sure was not in the mood because he came in late, his body was not in condition.
Lunch came and Kenma was supposed to go hide and eat alone but Kuroo immediately called him because they'll eat lunch together.
Kuroo made him a healthy lunch. There's salad, a small amount of side dish, half cup of rice, few pieces of meat, and a banana. Kenma decided that he'll just eat the banana and return all the remains back to Kuroo.
"You will not eat that if you don't eat all the food I prepared for you."
Kenma sighed and knew that he has no choice. He quietly ate his lunch while sometimes talking with Kuroo about the game and stuffs from classes.
"There's a classmate of mine who pretended to be in a relationship with his bestfriend and pranked all their friends. They told me it was like a pretend game. It kinda sucks, but it's kinda cool the same time," Kuroo said.
"Why are you telling me that?" Kenma asked.
"Why don't we try? Let's prank our friends, you game?" Kuroo chuckled and smirked.
Kenma didn't know what to reply. Sure he was fond of playing games, but this? This pretend game where his feelings are at risk of being exposed, where his friendship with Kuroo are at stake?
"Why don't we just try and focus on volleyball? We'll just waste our time for nonsense, Kuroo." He closed the lunchbos and gave it back to his friend.
"You are such a killjoy, Kenma!" Kuroo exclaimed teasingly.
Kenma just let out a small smile and tried distracting himself by playing another game on his PSP.
He wasn't a killjoy. He was just scared. He can't play a game that might make him miserable. He'll play anything. Volleyball, video games, anything. But not when feelings are involved. He just couldn't.
