System : ONLINE
I appreciate a degree of nebulous uncertainty when it comes to my past: I was born. I lived. My consciousness was digitized. A few millennia passed. Sirit found me in some ancient computer files. Decided to offer me a job. Now I'm here.
I don't want to know exactly how long it's been. How long I've been alive. How long I've been displaced.Â
An absence of definitives preserves my sense of estrangement. If I had hard facts and figures, this—my current state of existence—would feel less surreal. More details might make it harder to think, "Hey. Maybe I'm not a digital ghost working for one of the far-flung descendants of humanity. Maybe I don't split my time between a spaceship and an alien planet. Maybe I don't regularly converse with a being that's basically a giant psychic plant. Maybe it's still 2068 and I'm just a normal human and this has all been a really long, really weird, really convincing dream."
"Maybe."
System Processing is a short solarpunk story about Ov, a digital caretaker rapidly approaching retirement. Experience their final day, get to know the curious alien, Kor-Laðə, aid Ov's friends, and explore the beautiful world they inhabit in an introspective tale about individuality and symbiosis, understanding and acceptance, and grief and love.Â

I've talked in the past about launching a Patreon and that's something I'm working towards. One of the tier perks would be access to interactive TTRPG games with characters from Zorlok (and beyond...). So, I wanted to get an idea of what campaigns people are interested in (but, in the future, these polls would be reserved for specific Patreon tiers). The top two will have at least one episode each—meaning one in-game session—available on Patreon when it launches. Here are options for the first round. If you have any ideas or suggestions, feel free to send those in. Under the cut you can find more info on the concept, each idea, and a list of characters I'm thinking of as potential players for each campaign (there will be another poll to determine the casts once the first round of voting closes).
Note: you will be able to vote for your second choice in a separate post.
Which of these ideas most appeals to you? (read more below)
sexy, regency-ish fey court
murder mystery at a monster university
apocalyptic "zombie" survival story
cyberpunk fairy tale misfits
magical, gothic spaghetti western
spaceship horror story

Just added System Processing to the IFDB and was looking at the comments section on itch.io. I just love these two. The exact reactions I'd hoped people would have.

Question About a Possible Feature
TLDR: Under the cut are some gifs from a short story I wrote depicting a feature I'm considering adding to Zorlok. If you don't mind, check them out and let me know if that's something you'd be interested in seeing in Zorlok or if you'd rather everything just be normal text.
So, I got my final project back and it went exceptionally well. One of the things which my professor and a couple classmates pointed out as something they really enjoyed was the way I used link macros to mimic thought and help the narration feel more alive.
With this response (and the amount of fun I had incorporating it) I'm thinking of using it, or something similar, in Zorlok. My thoughts are that I could use it like I did in System Processing with links that permanently alter text and/or I could use cycling links (the ones where you click them and they change on a loop, often seen in character creation where you click through til the word/text you want is displayed).
Either way, this would allow for some personalization in Zorlok's thought process. These could be used to alter the story (like in-text choices), expand on ideas/worldbuilding, or just to provide more flavor for players' MCs. Zorlok in general has a pretty distinct inner voice but I think this could add more opportunity for players to feel in control of Zorlok's inner workings without having a bunch of full choices (like the kind which appear at the end of the page and lead to new screens).
Anyways, these are just some ideas I'm playing with. I've provided a few example gifs below the cut of this feature in action in System Processing. If you have time/interest please check them out and let me know if this is something you'd be interested in seeing in Zorlok or if you think it'd be annoying/distracting/etc. for whatever reason. Thanks for reading this and let me know what you think 😊
Spoilers for System Processing
Hate how hard it is to write emotional scenes.
Like *ugh* how the fuck am I supposed to see the screen through my tears?
