read the acknowledgments of rsom and we will talk :) im not here to pick up sides or go defending people, but even when flawed, cc at least tried to do something. she first created alec back in 2004, and in the year of 2007 many publishers didnt want to publish cob BECAUSE of him. they even had THE GUTS to suggest she removed him from her story. so yeah, tmi may have its flaws as its old but cc is always trying to do better - and at least that is something.

The acknowledgments is actually what made me post this. I haven’t finished the book yet but I read it. I agree though! Yeah, I’m happy that she created Alec at all, you know? I’m happy that she didn’t just leave them out of the story completely, which she very well could have and I’m even happy that she’s writing about them now. I’m most of the way through RSOM and I’m loving it so so much but that doesn’t really change that that acknowledgment irked me.

You’re free to disagree! I’m not here to trying to start a fight in any means, I completely understand why you would disagree with me but I’ve been following the series since it first came out. I only mention that too because I think it’s important to understand that I didn’t just jump into this fandom now and think, ‘oh well, she didn’t write about them then and she is now- so clearly she didn’t care about them fuck her.’ I’ve been in this fandom for a long time and I was listening to what CC was saying about these books when they were actually coming out and I just... 

I just truly don’t think she cared about Alec and Magnus like she does now. I completely understand the aspect of leaving them out because of the push back Alec’s character got and that's a valid reason for the first couple of books but... By the time City of Lost Souls came out, they were very popular. It was a really high selling series. CC could have done what she wanted at that point. She could have put more Alec and Magnus in and compensated for leaving them out in the beginning to get the books published. 

Even ignoring that though, yeah I get why she might have decided to leave them out because of that but I don’t think that was the only reason she didn’t write more of them. I honestly think she didn’t expect people to like them as much as they did. I mean, Jace and Clary were the main characters of TMI. Alec and Magnus were side characters. 

I think it was a combination of her A. not thinking the criticism was worth it (again, at that time valid in some way. I’m not saying it wasn’t) but also, B. just not thinking their characters mattered that much. This is another controversial topic but I think this is shown in what was actually written about them too, it’s not just the lack of writing about them. 

And that's all absolutely fine. I think CC has grown as a writer so much and personally, I think what she’s writing now is 10x better than her older stuff but what bothers me is the acknowledgment. Instead of saying like, ‘hey I left them out because I was getting criticism for having a gay character and I didn’t really realize how big these character would grow but I’m here now writing about them, I hope you guys like it.’

Instead of saying that she said, ‘the push back made me more determined to tell their story.’ Which... Seems like a blatant lie to me. She got push back and she kept them out of most of the scenes. Even when the series got big enough that she could have tried to fit them in more, she didn’t. She wasn’t more determined to write their story until the fandom completely fell in love with them, when she realized people loved these characters more than she thought and that people would love books about them (and she would make money. Again, no criticism on that but I’m sure that's a deciding factor). She also claims that she made them go on vacation on purpose to make this book and just find that hard to believe. I think it’s more realistic that she made them go on vacation because she needed them to go away and get closer while the other plot developed. She could have shown them on vacation more but she didn’t and I don’t think that was to leave room for this book, I think she just didn’t want to write about it at the time.

If characters from an actual horror based media like characters from Boyfriend to Death or something can be headcannoned to be totally chill with s/os that are socially ‘different and unacceptable’ than so can fucking attractive vampire anime boys from an Otome game

Like I know there’s only so little lgbt content in this fandom already, but fucking hell let us have the little stuff of what we got

Like I understand since it’s targeted towards teen girls and stuff that a lot of the content would be more heteronormative and what teen girls want, but fucking hell people if like a gay trans dude wants to hear his favorite fictional vampire boyfriend thinks he’s valid then let him fucking have that

Well you could easily make the characters not like that you fucking bafoon do people not realize that when people ask if a certain character would be accepting of that it’s most likely people wanting to be fucking validated jesus fucking christ
