There are new political parties forming against a backdrop of new drug hitting the streets, crime rates rising, the equalist movement restarting sort of, ‘Earth Empire nutters’ sending death threats to those who wrong them and some domestic terrorism by an unknown source. I think the title was going to be ‘Dreams in a broken city.” Tensions flare between ethnic groups (I guess this is the best term for them?) and between benders and non-benders.

I think what I came up with was a unicarmel legislature (I think I was going to call it the senate because y’know this is an American show) that had proportional representation of like maybe 100 MPs or something, with the head of the legislature elected by the parliament themselves. There would be a winner takes all presidential system who is head of state and government who works with civil servants and proposes legislation to his party. So people could vote for their favourite presidential candidate and a different party to represent them if they wanted to.

The Parties:

Action Party For Justice: used to call themselves the ‘action party of non-benders’ they are trying to distance themselves hard from any violent equalists and be respectable. Main concerns are with poverty and improving the visibility of nonbenders. I’d probably say they’d be considered left wing.

Center Party: Zhu-Li’s party. The middle ground. Catch-all Sorry. Generally isn’t here to rock the boat much and have a broad coalition of support.

National Party: centre-right, tough on crime party fronted by a buisness woman named Simi Tu. Their main concerns are with defeating crime, giving more money to the police and business.

The Spirit Protection Party: a green party who are mostly concerned with the environment and SPIRITS. Korra likes them, they have niche support though.

Empire and Earth Unity Party: a crackpock far-right nut job party for extreme Kuvira apologisers who know they have no chance of winning but want to maintain visibility as they’re convinced the Empire will rise again. Like to talk smack about anyone who they think betrayed Kuvira. Kuvira is in prison in this story and she thinks they’re a bit much.

Korra is the main character and only POV and is just exasperated by the city tearing itself apart from the inside and feels like she can’t do anything to stop it. Asami is stressed by the Equalists and trying to navigate non-bender politics, Bolin is getting deathreats from the nutters and Mako is stressed with work and can’t hold down a girlfriend who I eventually realised I could give a sublplot to hooray
