The lights on the console blinked steadily, a small sound eliminating from them, slowly rising in pitch as time moved along. This continued till the sound flooded the room, an irritated blond came around. Cursing at the machine under her breath. ‘I heard you the first five minutes’ as she hit a few buttons on the control panel well eyeing the monitor. ‘now let's see what you are freaking out about.’ she flicked a round sphere causing the pitcher on the screen to change, her gaze became more intense as the pitcher started to repeat after going through the feed a few times, everything seemed to be in place.

After going through the clips a few times over she reached for an intercom. ‘Harcourt, could you come up here for a moment?” She patiently waited for a response as she continued to flick through the video feed.

“What is it Sally, I'm rather busy in here.” He didn't quite sound angry but didn't sound as if he wanted to be interpreted either.

“I'm sorry sir, but I think we may have a problem with the video feed. I would like to have the second part of eyes if you don't mind.’ she said with slight hesitation in her voice.

His voice came through a few seconds later 'well, what is it?’

Sally wished he would have just come as she asked. The words she wanted to say was right there, but also knew how silly they sounded. 'well, that's the thing. The alarms were going off like there was a breach or… well you know all the reasons the alarms may go off. But when I looked through the feed I didn't see anything wrong.’

You may have seen my post from a few months ago highlighting our School Partnership with PS1, a public school located in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. I worked with their 2nd grade back in March over the course of a month to develop collagraph prints of their favorite things in New York City, inspired by classroom and gallery lessons focused on the theme of New York: Then and Now. Since then, the 3rd grade classes of PS1 have come and spent the month of May with me at the Museum learning about symbols and storytelling in Ancient Egypt. Third grade’s project culminated in weaving jewelry for themselves to wear, decorated with symbols to represent the students’ own lives, inspired by what they observed and learned about Ancient Egypt; they also worked with a dance teacher to develop movement to reflect these personal symbols. After these two intensive months, we invite students and their families to return to the Museum in June to see all of the beautiful work students have done on their partnership projects. For the first time this year, PS1’s Family Day was in collaboration with Cool Culture’s Bring the Cool Festival, a free celebration for families in the neighborhood. Some of the activities at Bring the Cool were inspired by PS1’s work in the galleries; an Ancient Egyptian coloring table, a New York: Then and Now photo booth, a Build-a-Poem wall (like a bigger version of magnetic poetry).

But the most exciting part of PS1’s festival presence was the students’ artwork displayed in the Beaux Art Court. Among all the activities going on, bursts of color were visible along the edge of the Court; bright pinks and yellows from the collagraph prints, blues and purples from the weaving. Students were able to show their parents proudly their artwork displayed here at the Brooklyn Museum, among the Rodin sculptures and Monet paintings. It’s one of the great joys of school partnerships to see the hard work students have put in all year reflected on a group of grinning faces, surrounded by their artwork, excited teachers, and proud parents.

It could have stopped me at the beginning knowing that he has a girlfriend. Had some thoughts that he was going to talk to me, like before; but also that he wouldn´t pay attention to the younger girl.

I took my table number and it said:

I walked trough the crowd and searched for my number on top of the tables. 

Saw the table with people I knew and as I got closer I saw him right next to his girlfriend. Looked at the empty chair next to him and as soon as I was gonna sit someone pull the chair.

That was everything to me, I was amazed. I realized that he cared and that probably we where gonna ended up talking at some point.

Me pudo haber parado al principio el saber que tenía una novia. Tenía algunos pensamientos de que el me iba a hablar, como antes; pero también de que el no le pondría atención a la chica más joven.

Tome mi número de mesa y decía:

Caminé entre la multitud y busque mi número arriba de las mesas.

Ví la mesa con gente que conocía y mientras me acercaba lo vi sentado justo al lado de su novia. Miré la mesa vacía a su lado y justo cuando me iba a sentar alguien jaló la silla.

Eso lo fue todo para mi, estaba asombrada. Me di cuneta de que le importaba y que probablemente en algún punto terminaríamos hablado.
