For Valjean/Fantine:

1. My take on their canon relationship: Look. They're a wholesome platonic pair. This relationship has been hinted at in so many adaptations let them just be friends

2. Do I ship them: As best friends!

3. Reasons why I do/don’t ship them: Fantine needs someone to love her platonically so much. Valjean needs someone to love him like a genuine friend so much. They need it, let them have it.

4. Headcanon, if any: Obviously they get fake married so Fantine and Cosette can have a comfortable life.

5. How much do I ship (%): Platonically!!!!! 100%!!!!

For Simplice/Fantine:

1. My take on their canon relationship: Simplice eventually understood Fantine and learns not to judge her from her past sins. I'm not sure there is room for romance in canon but. Shit.

2. Do I ship them: Low key this kinda lit the spark for me just now

3. Reasons why I do/don’t ship them: The possibility! For longing! For the hurt/comfort! The questioning! The nun thing! The pure saint and the repentant sinner! Low Key I just might ship it

4. Headcanon, if any: Simplice sings for Fantine when they're alone

That would’ve been 2009, so I was still neck-deep in Stargate Atlantis fandom, while also being into a few other TV show fandoms: HIMYM (oh foolish me), The Office (Andy/Oscar forever), and Leverage (a show that didn’t let me down). 

Ah, SGA. What a show with so much potential that squandered it. But at least the show gave me Radek Zelenka, inspired in me a love of the Czech Republic, and gave me the opportunity to write like 26 different ships for one fandom! 

Is this that weird mashup of Rawhide episodes thrown together to be a film-ish thing?

I think being vague about the song choice might have been in part a strategy to dodge copyright take-downs for some vidders over the years.

As always, thank you for this. i found this episode so unbearable that i could not force myself to watch it again with my mum, so the fact that you did this is... i respect you. from the first ep i was always more interested in the actual commentary than the jokes, though they do help lighten my mood. i think you have great points and know how to express them, and i agree pretty much with everything. this valjean is sucking my soul out of me.

Thank you so much, I’m glad that you enjoy them and that you appreciate the commentary. I try not to do a ton of discourse because the Les Mis fandom has always been complicated to be involved in for me...or maybe I just got into the online fandom portion of it at the wrong time. The environment at the time made me feel I wasn’t really qualified to showcase an opinion if I didn’t know a lot of things or was well-versed in all things Les Mis so I eventually stepped away from it, in a way. I feel like now the environment doesn’t seem as intense at back then, but I still feel there are a lot of things I’m not qualified enough to discuss. Still, some things just need to be stated and there’s no joke I could make to lighten up certain decisions, in my opinion. The part of Valjean and Cosette buying clothes really made me uncomfortable and I didn’t even know how to approach it but I felt not many people were talking about it, in comparison to the “wet dream” and I felt it was the worst part. Anyway, thanks so much for dropping a comment and I’m glad you like the summaries :)

I enjoyed the commentary and I agree with pretty much all your points, just kind of to a lesser degree. I'm still finding more to enjoy than not enjoy in this show, overall. The peephole scene with Eponine bothered me the most of all, honestly.
