My immediate reaction was oh my god what. But most of what I'm seeing is actually regular marshmallows with a Brunost caramel sauce, which makes sense given Brunost is basically caramel anyway -- it's whey heated to the maillard reaction point, I believe, though it's been a hot minute since I read about that. I've actually attempted to make it -- I had a bunch of whey left over from making yogurt and tried to brunost it up -- but mine turned into a solid block of caramel when it cooled. :D

I assumed it would turn out to be the girl who notices Rose and Finn getting arrested, and she was just using the guy with the flower as decoy…

Do you like tomato based sauce? Tikka masala is a mild, usually chicken dish with rice, it's one of my favorites. Or mild curry is good too, if you're not accustomed to Indian spices

It's all delicious, for starters. I like tikka masala (tomato and cream sauce, "masala" being a word for a common spice blend), vindaloo tends to be a very spicy dish, and mango or other fruit sauces tend to be really good. Paneer, an Indian style cheese, is amazing--very thick and chewy but not hard, like if you had ricotta but with almost no moisture, usually grilled and marinated.

You should definitely order naan (flat but leavened bread, super soft and good) with your dish, and rice if it doesn't come with it. Gotta soak up as much of that delicious sauce as possible.

If you can, find somewhere that does thali - lots of small dishes to try. I'd go vegetarian, too: dhal (usually lentils) is lovely; mattar paneer (peas and Indian cheese in a tomato sauce) - both are relatively easy to make if you're cooking yourself. If you are cooking it yourself, try Madhur Jaffrey's recipes - I've found them really accessible. (But it's easier to cook once you know what to expect, taste wise). Hope you enjoy it!

Definitely get some naan. Naan is the absolute best. If you’re a fan of spinach-based things, try saag, too! Chicken saag/Basmati rice/Naan is a great combo.

i decided nothing ventured, nothing gained, and ordered some - i just went with basic curry, since i am a small and fearful creature, and it was nice! considering i was afraid of not liking it at all and just having this food i was never gonna finish in my house, i am more than okay with nice. the naan was, as stated, wonderful, and i also had some samosas? (which, gun to my head, i would have told you was a type of drink until today. i have no idea why. i can only assume i saw a reference to “having samosas” and assumed.) ANYHOW: FUCKING EXCELLENT? i love samosas?? and since i have a massive fucking sweet tooth, i also got some gulab jamun, which is also good, but i think might be one of those foods i can’t eat because the texture bothers me.

Not sure on the imagery, but the little scenes looking pastoral at first but having a grimmer meaning may be inspired by memorial quilts and memorial murals, which you've probably seen a lot of - each artist quilts or paints a section, often clearly delineated but thematically connected. The imagery itself reminds me of some fake children's book but I can't think of what, Bosch inspired probably

I don’t think I’ve seen a ton of memorial quilts, other than the AIDS quilt which I was exposed to quite a lot growing up in San Francisco -- memorial murals I probably have but can’t think of any off the top of my head. But there has been a lot of pastoral embroidery on my dash lately...

That is not an apple corer. That is a torture device cleverly disguised as a kitchen implement.

It’s fucking awesome is what it is. I cook with apples like twice a year and I’m still considering buying one. It leaves so much more pulp on the apple than I ever have peeling by hand, and it cores and chops it at the same time so you just slide it off, hack it into quarters, and dump it in. Fantastic.

It smelled fantastic for hours yesterday. I can still get whiffs of it when I walk in the kitchen, it’s GREAT.

Look, this is quarantine cooking, we work with what we have! (I did actually have apple cider vinegar and vanilla, I just figured it was a good chance to test out the vanilla vinegar.)

I mean, you’re not wrong. The key to making a lot of money is to invest other peoples’ successfully and take a fee. The only change The Producers made is that they intended to tank the show and take the money by producing it as cheaply as possible.

I swear to god this is going to end up in somebody suggesting a fandom robin hood hedge fund or this is Alec Hardison's origin story on how he made most of his money (it being illegal less because he stole it and more because he didn't have the right paperwork to allow him to make that much money... well that and purposely tanking stocks) and this is why he knew how to do what he did in the first episode.

The interesting thing is that it’s basically the same amount of work and risk to run a successful hedge fund as it is to run a Ponzi scheme pretending to be one, it’s just very different KINDS of work. A hedge fund involves a lot of analysis and study and understanding of the market; it’s very cerebral. A Ponzi scheme is all hustle, you have to be charismatic and a good salesman, and you have to hustle 24/7 which is why it’s so much work. A hedge fund’s risk is always the failure to guess correctly; a Ponzi scheme’s risk is a failure to raise sufficient money from new investors. The only difference is you can fail for a lot longer running a hedge fund. But if you’re a charismatic person who likes selling more than they like math, running a Ponzi scheme is a lot more fun. :D Hardison, who seems to like the grift aspect, would probably choose a Ponzi where he can make shit up over a hedge fund, but you do have to know a lot about them in order to pretend to run one.

Ooooh, they’re hedging their bets. I’m torn between being embarrassed I didn’t make that connection before now, and kind of gobsmacked that they can literally say, ‘It’s a gamble ��‍♂️’ and people think it’s a good way to run the financial industry. (Running an illegal hedge fund would not make you any less of a crook than the people who run legit hedge funds, lbr)

I’m not quite awake yet, and for a moment I was like, wow, that’s a lot of Tupperware, 5 boxes full, but that - that’s not what you meant, is it.

LOL, well technically no, though I did probably have at least three boxes of normal-sized tupperware too. I have a lot of tupperware!

I did actually take measurements of the book nook to see if it would fit the air mattress, so that I could actually build some kind of guest room, but alas it is slightly too small.

I haven’t had extensive encounters with him, but the first time we met he excitedly introduced himself and told me who lived in the place before me, the second time he literally took the recycling out of my hands to help me dump it, and the third time he was carrying flowers and a pastry box into his apartment at like, five AM. His ways are kind but mysterious.

Oh my god the second you said “church kitchen” I had a visceral sense-memory of my childhood church’s kitchen and this would have fit into it PERFECTLY, with the giant coffee urns and the random hand-operated meat grinder inexplicably clamped to one steel prep counter.

Sam, when did you get a mandoline cutter? What are you planning on slicing? They're so great! I've only lost minor parts of my fingers to mine! ...maybe I, too, should be shopping for gloves....

I AM GOING TO SLICE EVERYTHING. :D Actually I’m not sure. I am definitely going to make potato chips, and I have a dehydrator now (thank you, Free Stuff Table, I will miss you greatly) so I’m thinking I’m gonna make fruit chips for snackin’ on, and beyond that the sky’s the limit. Mum gave me the mandoline for Christmas and also said “Log onto our Prime account and buy yourself some mandoline gloves to wear so you don’t lose a fingertip” and I was doing my research before purchasing.

Somehow, in my last move, I lost my decks. I mean, I only had three, but I liked them, and had toyed with collecting more for the art. :( Gonna have to rehunt up some, I think.

Aw no, that’s such a shame! On the plus, second-hand decks are usually pretty easy to come by, so you could build up your collection again relatively inexpensive. Or now is a good time to contemplate making one of your own!

Berea is definitely a very cool place -- one of my close friends went there, and I grew up using their brooms (my family is from the Louisville area; among a lot of other beautiful products the students make, they have really great Shaker-style wooden brooms)
