Tbh, I've never understood the hate for Christmas decorations left up year round, especially just lights. If it doesn't look ratty and gross, who cares about shiny, colorful ribbons or evergreen wreaths? (Honestly, I dont even care if it looks ratty, cuz it's not my life and potentially makes my house look better by comparison.)
Yeah, lights up year round are just a nice decoration, honestly.Â
As regards ratty decorations, I think the issue is that it might make your house look better but it also makes everyoneâs house worth less money. Weâre stuck in this weird terrible system where the appearance of every individual house contributes to the home values of the entire neighborhood, so even if you donât care that your neighborâs house looks like crap, itâs taking thousands of dollars off the value of your own home when it does. People get really shirty about that, rather than about the general crapness of the overall system. And âleaving holiday decorations upâ is an indicator to some that the person doesnât care about the appearance of their home, which implies eventual yard/home ugliness, which circles back to the âhome valuesâ thing.Â
I donât mind twinkly lights or wreaths, and I bought my home to live in and not as an investment so the home values thing is unpleasant but not enough to make me be a dick to someone over it, but I do admit I donât want to see Santa in someoneâs yard in July. Though thatâs not exclusive to Christmas decorations, Iâd be the same with fourth of July flags in December. Itâs just boring to look at after a while.Â

I must've missed the story of the dragon by the door. What is this?
Oh, I just reblogged a post of photos of tiny dragon decorations hung next to or over doorways, and said I wouldnât mind installing one but the HOA would give me crap about it :DÂ
