Just checking in on yall. Wanting to see how yall are coping after the storm. Hope all is well with you and the kids, and with tisfan and her family, too.
Aw, thanks for looking in on us!
@tisfan and I were ready to evacuate -- heading west and up into the mountains to stay with friends there -- but Florence veered south to come ashore in the Carolinas (instead of southeast Virginia, where we live), and we both opted to remain home instead.
If you look at satellite maps, the top edges of the hurricane are right on top of us, but it hasn’t done more here than drop some occasional rain, to be honest. Not even all that much rain, just occasional sprinkles that last for about ten minutes and then go away again.
Tisfan is a little further south (about 50 miles) and also closer to the coast and sea level, so a lot of businesses and stuff near her are closed due to evacuations, and she’s had a couple of power flickers, but we’re in more or less constant contact, and we’re all doing just fine.
Our thoughts and sympathies are with everyone in the Carolinas who are riding out the brunt of the storm -- I saw a video just this morning from my mom’s hometown in North Carolina, with houses with rooms holding two or three feet of water in them, and cars in the street in water up to their windows. Here’s hoping all our readers in those areas were able to find somewhere safe to go and that they aren’t too badly impacted.
