N603SK, one of the CRJ700s of SkyWest that flies in their own colors instead of as a regional partner, makes its final approach into DFW. As of 1Q2022, there are 106 active Bombardier CRJ700s flying with Skywest. There are 24 that are parked. Of the 106 active CRJ700s, most are either in American Eagle colors or United Express colors. However, the following SkyWest CRJ700s I am certain are flying in their own colors: N603SK N604SK N741EV N752SK N754EV N767SK N768SK If there is a SkyWest CRJ700 I have missed in this listing or one that should not be there, please let me know! The first SkyWest CRJ700 was delivered in 2004. A total of 151 CRJ700s are flying or have flown in the past with SkyWest. SkyWest is the largest CRJ700 operator in the world. #Avgeek #aviation #aircraft #planeporn #DFW #airport #igTexas #planespotting #airlines #Bombardier #CRJ700 #N603SK #Skywest #DFWavgeek #instagramaviation #splendid_transport #instaaviation #aviationlovers #aviationphotography #flight #AvgeekSchoolofKnowledge #AvGeeksAero #AvGeekNation (at DFW Airport) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZsoYu-slgP/?utm_medium=tumblr

Like its larger and more well-known stablemate, the General Electric CF6 turbofan, the smaller CF34 engine that powers this Skywest/Alaska Embraer E175 is every bit as significant in the annals of aviation powerplant history. The CF34 has its roots as the military TF34 engine that was developed in the late 1960s for the US Navy’s VSX competition that resulted in the Lockheed S-3 Viking patrol jet. With a core based upon the T64 turboshaft engine, the TF34 was designed for fuel efficiency given the long patrol missions expected from the S-3 Viking. The T64 turbo shaft was developed for the Sikorsky H-53 family of helicopters (CH-53 Sea Stallion, CH-53E Super Stallion, MH-53J Pave Low, MH-53E Sea Dragon) and was first introduced in 1964 and is still in production today. The TF34 made its first flight the same year as the CF6 went into production for the Douglas DC-10. The TF34 was then selected to power the Fairchild Republic A-10 “Warthog" in 1973. The transition to the civilian world began when Canadair began work on the CL600 Challenger business jet- originally intended to use the Lycoming ALF502 (which powered the A-10’s competitor, the Northrop A-9 as well as the BAe-146), GE offered a developed version of the TF34 called the CF34. While common in large commercial airframes to offer engine options, the Canadair Challenger became the first business jet to offer customers a choice between the CF34 and ALF502. Originally criticized as being too overpowered for the first production Challenger, the CF34 offered growth potential that was a significant factor in the development of stretched Challenger derivatives that would become the CRJ series regional jets. The first production CF34 flew in 1983 on the Challenger. The first prototype CRJ flew in 1991 and in 1999, Embraer launched the E170 family with the CF34 engine as well. #avgeek #aviation #aircraft #planeporn #KLAX #LAX #LosAngeles #California #airport #planespotting #instaplane ⠀ #Embraer #E175 #Skywest #Alaska #N183SY #instagramaviation #splendid_transport #instaaviation #aviationlovers #aviationphotography #flight ⠀ #AvGeeksAero #AvgeekSchoolofKnowledge #AvGeekNation (at Los Angeles International Airport) https://www.instagram.com/p/CJkpgMbB_Ik/?igshid=15qocz6xes1ld
One of Skywest's Embraer E175s in Delta Connection colors decelerates after touchdown on 16R at SeaTac. This aircraft, N290SY, was delivered to Skywest in October 2018. ⠀ ⠀ The E175 is slightly longer than the baseline E170 that entered service first in 2004. The E170 seats about 72 passengers in single class configuration and is 29.9m/98ft long while the E175 pictured here seats about 78 in single class configuration and is 31.7m/104ft long.⠀ ⠀ The E170 is no longer in production- it has been replaced by the E175SC (Special Configuration). An E175SC is just an E175 that is fitted with 70 seats to comply with US scope clauses- the added space is then devoted to the premium cabin while giving operators the flexibility to convert the aircraft to E175 later on should the need arise (which would really just be a cabin reconfiguration). The E175SC also has all the performance improvements of the E175 line as well.⠀ ⠀ #avgeek #aviation #aircraft #planeporn #KSEA#SEA#Seattle #SeaTac #Washington #airport #planespotting #instaplane #Embraer #E175 #Skywest #DeltaConnection #DeltaAirlines #N290SY #instagramaviation #splendid_transport #instaaviation #aviationlovers #aviationphotography #flight #AvGeeksAero #AvgeekSchoolofKnowledge #AvGeekNation (at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea-Tac)) https://www.instagram.com/p/B7FW-7nB2-A/?igshid=7813i8zuol2v
From several years ago, one of Skywest’s Bombardier CRJ200s, N902EV, makes a sunset final approach into DFW. I had posted previously how the CRJ series of regional jets relied on earlier engineering work by Canadair (before they were bought by Bombardier) on a stretched business jet derivative of the Challenger CL-600 called the Challenger E, sometimes referred to as the CL-610E. The Challenger E was planned as a competitor to the Gulfstream series but was canceled in 1981 and the work rolled into further improvements to the Challenger jet. Back then, CL-600 was a marketing designation for the Challenger but it was also its certification designation (CL-600-1A11). To confuse things further, the next version of the Challenger was the CL-601, but its certification designation was CL-600-2A12. When the Canadair Regional Jet was formally launched in 1989, it was certificated as a variant of the CL-600 Challenger so the CRJ100/200s have the certification designation CL-600-2B19, the CRJ700/701/702 are the CL-600-2C10, the CRJ705 is the CL-600-2D15 and the CRJ900 is the CL-600-2D24. So why does the CRJ705 have a different certification designation? Because it’s not a CRJ700, it’s a CRJ900 with a different cabin configuration to comply with scope clauses. Similar scenario, scope compliance, led to the CRJ550, a CRJ700 with fewer seats, and the CRJ440, a CRJ200 with fewer seats. CRJ100, CRJ200, CRJ700 and so on are marketing designations. Want to confuse things further? All of the CRJ series of aircraft had a different designation when it comes to type ratings- for that, CL-65 is used. Got that all straight? There’s a quiz tomorrow, LOL. #Avgeek #aviation #aircraft #planeporn #KDFW #DFW #airport #igTexas #planespotting #airlines #Bombardier #CRJ200 #N902EV #Skywest #American #AmericanEagle #DFWavgeek #instagramaviation #splendid_transport #instaaviation #aviationlovers #aviationphotography #flight #AvgeekSchoolofKnowledge #AvGeeksAero #AvGeekNation (at DFW Airport) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2rYOh8Bbjj/?igshid=107bs5feoh0te
