Telemaco Signorini (Italian, 1835–1901)

Signorini was a key figure in the Macchiaioli – a group of artists centred in Florence who were forerunners of the Impressionists. The Macchiaioli rejected the conventions taught by Italian art academies in favour of an art based on modern life. They worked outdoors in order to capture natural colour and light. Their members are typically listed as Giuseppe Abbati, Cristiano Banti, Odoardo Borrani, Adriano Cecioni, Vicenzo Cabianca, Vita D’Ancona, Serafino De Tivoli, Giovanni Fattori, Silvestro Lega, Raffaelo Sernesi, and Telemaco Signorini.

The wonderful Italian tenor Francesco Signorini (1861-1927).
He trained at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome and made his debut in 1882 at the Teatro Politeama in Florence and after 1897 sang regularly in leading dramatic Italian roles at La Scala. In 1898 he appeared at the opera house of Odessa, in 1902 at the German Theatre in Prague. In 1890 he appeared with success as Turiddu in ‘’Cavalleria rusticana’’ at the Teatro Pagliano in Firenze. He had around the turn of the century a significant success in all Italian major opera houses. In 1907 He made guest appearances in San Francisco and Los Angeles and also appeared in Buenos Aires. In 1910 he retired from the opera stage and taught in Rome.
