The Illustrated Idioms is a project commissioned by my father. As dads are wont to do, he and his siblings, along with their spouses, decided to give each other nicknames based on their personality traits; specifically, the little quirks they use to annoy each other the most.
LOW BALL!
Low Ball! is my dad's nickname. The resulting design is a playful, witty illustration tailored for those who happen to be savvy penny-pinchers. The baseball reference is a lighthearted nod to anyone who knows the value of a good bargain and isn't afraid to show it.
Ageless Wonder
Ageless Wonder celebrates the enduring vitality and active lifestyles of individuals well into their golden years. The piece captures three vibrant women engaged in a triathlon, showcasing the timeless pursuit of physical fitness and endurance. Their movement proves that joy knows no bounds; whether biking, swimming, or running, these women embody a spirit of resilience and determination, inspiring us all to embrace a life filled with vitality and adventure.
Small Change
Small Change is, of course, a gentle jab at being frugal and pinching every single penny. I decided to reframe the phrase. The illustration features a whimsical bee, decked out with a tiny coin and a miniature purse, pivoting the focus toward environmental mindfulness. It serves as a reminder that making small, everyday changes can drastically improve the well-being of our planet and its precious species.
No Clue
No Clue is for the one who just has absolutely nothing going on up there. Every group needs that delightfully ditzy, wonderfully clueless friend who keeps things light, and this piece is a playful celebration of those blissfully unaware moments.
High End
Being High End is all about the spouse with sky-high standards and lavish preferences. This is a tribute to high maintenance, expensive taste, and the unapologetic pursuit of the finer things in life.
Short Fuse
Someone in the family has a Short Fuse. It's the explosive temperament of those friends or family members who are quick to anger and prone to shouting matches; a bomb going off right inside of their mouth.
Last Word
Some people just need to have the Last Word. In fact, the one family member who initially managed to score a compliment with Ageless Wonder couldn't keep the crown for long. The lengths they will go to win a debate, even if it means arguing from six feet under, earned them this brand-new nickname.

Though this is the end of the book, I still have work to do, and this story has plenty of time left in it. I have a short winter break to regroup before finishing my last class. This wasn’t a flawless experience by any stretch, but it gave me a good perspective before doing it all again one more time. I started this whole project talking about how much I work. I treated it like an obstacle, and it turns out I was right. I won’t be less tired, and I can’t magically create more time, but I can make better use of the time I have.
That is one of a few healthier habits I need to focus on. Maslow laid out a pretty clear roadmap for getting needs met, and while I’m glad to be above the bottom floor, I know I’m still ignoring a lot of the steps that would keep me moving upward. I keep reminding myself that finishing this degree is exactly what will help me focus more on myself. I’ll get my time back, and having this added to my resume will help me work jobs that let me live more and grind less. Quality of life is the real goal.
In past attempts at this class, I tried this autobiographical format before eventually giving up after running into the same difficulties. I reread those old assignments, and that version of me was not in a good place. It was hard to even look at. This story, while way more mundane, is a much easier reflection of myself to face. It’s all progress, and when everything goes the way I hope, I’ll walk at graduation and move forward.

Back in 2019, The RedHeaded Zombie Show threw a concert at Bar-K in Colorado Springs. The show took place on 4/20. The lineup featured Rough Age, Timmy Vilgiate, Menagerie, and Dear Rabbit. Naturally, a 4/20 show called for a psychedelic poster, and that’s exactly what we delivered.

Sparkle n' Splash Designs Art Studio was the subject of a fake job posting and scam that I, unfortunately, became entangled in. While the business and brand were not real, the work I created for the brand is strong. The work is worth showing.
Sparkle n' Splash was presented as a concept for an art gallery and physical show space featuring the work of skilled traditional artists. When developing the logo, I focused on the use of “ n’ ” in place of “and.” This offered a unique design opportunity: to create a custom lettermark that could stand alone or be integrated into the wordmark. The "n" was designed to be the primary brand symbol, subtly accented by flame and water icons to visually reflect the gallery’s name. The flame icon cleverly serves as the apostrophe above the lowercase " n ." I felt this detail was particularly clever.
To showcase work in the gallery space, I masked artwork into the " n " itself.
