I don’t think so, when it comes to them moving to Formula E. Alonso, in particular, would hate FE cus it’s like the opposite of his driving style (he’s struggled to adapt to the hybrid era of F1) and although I’d love for Hamilton to have a go or explore it if he’s interested in it, I don’t think he would be willing to commit to more seasons as a driver after he retires from F1.

I think it would be interesting to see Verstappen or Sainz in FE. If there was less stupidity about comparing them and more capacity to do something like Hamilton and Rossi did with switching, it’d be fun to have F1 and FE drivers explain the differences to each other. 

Formula E’s driving style is quite counter-intuitive to most drivers and takes a lot of adaptation; where you’d be encouraged to be on the power as much as possible in most series, be that ‘last of the late brakers,’ it’s completely the opposite in FE.

Normally, the fastest - thus most efficient - line through a corner would be to hammer through it in the highest gear possible, braking as little as possible. In Formula E, that’s rarely the case. The majority of the corners on FE tracks are very low speed because they’re so tight and there are no gears on an FE car* so if you brake to a very low speed, you can take advantage of the ability to regen and then roar out of the corner at 200kW, foot straight to the floor. You can kind of do that in F1, with the hybrid acceleration but the rule will nearly always be that if you can stay in 5th then do. You’ll burn less fuel if you shift the gears less and the less you slow down and speed up, the less risk there is of lockups and damaging your tyres. Basically the smoother you can be, the better things work.

In FE, the jerkier and weirder you can be, the better it works. The car has no downforce so you’re not going to carry any speed through a corner anyway, unless you’re effectively drifting on dust (drivers do sometimes do this, Alexander Sims I am looking at you) so taking advantage of having powerful braking (unless everything is overheating) is a better tactic. Even though ever since they were in karts, drivers will have been told to do the opposite of that.

That effectively did not answer your question, haha. I said Verstappen and Sainz because they’re both quite wheel-to-wheel and wrestle the car a lot, which suits FE better than some other drivers might. I’m sure eg: Lando would have a blast, not least cus he’d spend 900 hours in the simulator first to make damn sure he knew what he was doing and I actually think Lewis’ tendency to properly have a straight-up fight with the car in the cockpit would’ve served him well if he’d ever somehow found himself in FE.
